Two-Factor Authentication for Discourse

The following instructions detail activation and utilization of 2FA for Discourse.

Download and install Google Authenticator.

Log in to Discourse.

Navigate to the prompt for “Two Factor Authentication” in account preferences.

Open Google Authenticator.

Select “BEGIN SETUP” or “+” then select “Scan barcode”.

Scan the QR code displayed in Discourse using Google Authenticator – Do this on multiple devices (mobile phones, tablets, etc) if possible to help ensure consistent access.

Enter the six-digit code from Google Authenticator into the text field labeled “Code” then select “Enable”.

Note: An additional prompt for the six-digit code from Google Authenticator will follow the standard prompt for the e-mail address/username and password for future logins to Discourse.
