View Full Version : June 21st, 2007 - XGen's Office Gets Comfortable
We're settling into our new office space this week with essentials such as original NES and Genesis 3 systems (http://www.xgenstudios.com/images/newspost/SumoChairs2.jpg), custom XGen wall hangings (http://www.xgenstudios.com/images/newspost/SumoChairs1.jpg) and, of course, a coffee maker. I also learned never to forfeit Controller 1 to Danny in a 2-player game of Galaga 88 (http://www.xgenstudios.com/images/newspost/SumoChairs3.jpg) (Dan has seen level 225 in the arcade version, a 4-hour feat).
The fine folks at SUMO (http://www.sumolounge.com/) were kind enough to donate a few of their gigantic, space-aged OMNI (http://www.xgenstudios.com/) chairs for the team to work, play, nap, and generally lounge around on; Thanks SUMO!

Why are you so awesome?! (I'm the guy that sent in a game sponsor e-mail a while ago ;))
Man, you make game development look waaaaay easier than it looks. And so, please don't spend all the time playing Super Mario. xD
Anyways, you guys make sure to get stuff done. *Winkage*

We prefer the term "laser sword" :P
As far as the old school games and systems, they are mostly mine ( The Genesis and NES anyways) from back in the day. I also have a couple of places in town I get games from as well as EBay once in a while.
I find older games to be very inspirational. You can see what they did well, what they did poorly and take away alot from that. I also kind of miss the days when games were brutal, unforgiving and damn near impossible at times. It made it that much better when you finally beat it.
I still have some games from when when I was 3, when I got my first system - the NES

Yeah guys, don't start calling it a lightsaber---Xgen dosen't want to be sued. >_>
I got a genesis when I was 4. Man, some of those games were hard for a 4 year old.
I still love the games that you can't save your place at. Those are some of the funnest games, because you have to sit for 4 hours at a time to beat them. The 2-D games were definetly some of the best games ever. Now, almost every game is identical, and buggy. There are too many war games and racing games out for the consoles today.

We are on Jasper Ave and 105st, right down town Edmonton.
One of these days when we get it all set up we will have an open house or something like that. Perhaps a game release party...;)

There isnt much on the walls, and we need shelves still. I have lots of cool stuff I want to put in my office which I cant at the moment. There is just a glass desk and a computer which is pretty boring.
We need to give this place just a little more character then show it off completely ;)

Are you serious. Dude, there is no way in hell! You seriously have to be yankin' my chain here. I totally was fooled that it was a picture of the new My Little Pony game, but I guess when you get really close, you can see the letters Go Ballistick, and a bunch of stick people running around killing eachother. Thank you for the info, and I was almost fooled.

About tours and our office...
It has been discussed, and the team would rather not have anyone 'show up' at our office for the time being. This has become a problem for some other game developer offices and might make the team uncomfortable. It also seems unprofessional to the other offices in the building having people just showing up.
