View Full Version : Need to get flexible, fairly quickly.
I need some GOOD excercises that you know work. I went to a lot of different sites, but how am I supposed to know if they work? If you have some stretches or something that you know help in getting your flexibility up, please let me know. I have a game in like a week and I was hoping I could at least improve a little.
The reason, if you must know, is that I play goalie in hockey, and it requires you to be flexible, very flexible. I actually go two small injuries doing the splits, and being checked and having my pads forced over my head while I was on my back...head over heels?
Thanks for the help!

Have you watched any Excercise videos? Because doing them a few times a day will get you as limber as a Rubber pencil.

For your legs, Squats, jumping forward and backwards, duck walk, etc

Join your schools gymnastics team.
Back in grade seven and eight, I was in gymnastics. Quite a few guys came, most of them breakdancers and the like, in order to improve their flexability and their moves. I find it sad that alot of guys at the school I go to now don't joing gymnastics because of the stigma attatched. Its just a good, fun sport. Take the oppertunity.
Though it might be late in the year to join a school team, check your yellow pages for a club near you. Also, check with places such as the YMCA or community health centers- you might be able to find a cheap program near you.

I thought gymnastics was the realm of obsessed freaks with no life. Was I wrong?

Try yoga. I hear that improves flexibility wonderfully.
I'm a bit lucky in the fact that a lot of the bone attachments (not joints) in my body are attached a little strange. Which is why I can put my leg behind my head or jut my scapula out.

I'm a goalie in hockey too and yet i spend half of my day in front of the Pc.
Wich is strange since i still have an amazing flexibility, maybe it just comes naturally to some people hehe:D .
Anyways before doing exercises be sure to warm up, i got a serious injury at hockey practice because i did not warm up.
1) You can take the stairs at your house or somewhere about 10-15 times a day, i do this mainly because my room is on the 2nd floor but its good exercise.
2) For a good flexibility make sure your pads and now i think about it your whole equipment is not too big, oversized equipment can really bring your flexibility and overall performance down.
I'll think about more ways when i'm a bit less asleep, its 11:00 PM here and i woke up at 7:30 AM...*falls asleep*

Get into a split-like position and have a large individual jump onto your shoulders.

Some people are more naturally flexible. Others have their bones attached differently. I happen to be the latter -- my joints are somewhat different (particularly in the legs), so I have more flexibility than most people.
