I am a student programmer with about two years of programming experience and I want to try a game project. I am thinking that my first game project be a game like StickRPG. I have a few questions I would like you to answer about the game and features that are planned. If you don't want to answer a question or don't have an answer to the question feel free to skip it any additional feedback would be nice too!

The game is trying to keep the general concept of StickRPG but will not keep the graphic element which basically means there will be no stick figures. The game will be built off an engine the is being released at the end of this month. This engine is going to be great for the game and offer wonderful graphics. If you would like to offer help to make the game as best as possible here is a few things I need help with. Also, for those of you concerned about game lag the game is being built in a way where almost any computer can play it. There will be no high-level lighting but I can assure it will be nice and pleasing to look at.

- Texture Artists (these people make the 'look' of the 3D figures using flat image files)
- Music Artists (people who can develop music of any type.)
- Introduction and Credits (this can be easiest done in Flash)
- Concept Artist (making the first release the best would be nice, this person would provide ideas on how the game works and how certain elements will work)
- Testers (these people would test versions of the game making sure that there is optimal quality.)

My email address is: justin@legendarydesign.org

Question 1: Would you be willing to play a StickRPG like game in a 3D enviroment?

Question 2: (If Question 1 was yes.) What is an acceptable file size for a game like this?

Question 3: Should this game include a small music library?

Question 4: (If Question 4 was yes.) About how many songs would you like to see?

Question 5: Should there be jobs within the game?

Question 6: (If Question 5 was yes.) About how many jobs should be within the game?

Question 7: (If Question 5 was yes.) Should there be one linear career line or should there be options to follow many career different career lines?

Question 8: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about the concept about work being more detailed and instead of clicking to do work you could do mini-games?

Question 9: (Question 8 extended) Should performance on the mini-game determine how much money you get for that work?

Question 10: Should there be limited access to things. (Example: If you don't have a car you can't go into the town which has the bank.)

Question 11: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about a job experience system? (For example, if you do a shift at a fast food place you get 3 experience points. If you want the promotion you need at least 300 experience points.) or Should good performance on a mini-game determine if you get promoted.

Question 12: What do you think of an education system? (For example, getting specific degrees will open up different jobs.)

Question 13: How vast should the game land be?

Question 14: Should there be poor and rich parts in the game?

Question 15: What do you feel about political issues being in a game?

Question 16: Should the game follow a specific story line or should the game be free play or both.

Question 17: Would you like to see this game online where you could play with others?

Question 18: Would you be willing to pay for a game like this or should it be free?

Question 19: (If Question 18 was free/no) What if the game was a small fee (under 10.00)

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!

Q1. 3D? What exactly does that mean? It sounds good. . .
Q2. Acceptable File size? Well I'd take about anything under 1GB, but for those with lower internet speeds if it's a download, or just lower space, 250MBs is always a good beet to aim for. . . But, with a game like this, we might end up with 1-2GBs, wich is no problem for me!
Q3. Music? Well, I personally like to listento my own while I play a game like this, but I suppose that it might be a good idea to at least add some in, and add a mute button.
Q4. How many songs? Well, lets see, how would you build it? If you're just gonna add different tunes for different buildings/times/events, then I'd say enough to fit, and maybe more as a bonus.
Q5. Definatly a yes. You're making something like StickRPG, right!?
Q6. How many?! Well, that would depend upon how large your game is gonna get. Lets wait for my answer on Q13. . .
Q7. We're not just remaking StickRPG, right? Let's go with MANY different careers, and not just McSticks, TheCorp, and Leadership. . .
Q8. I'm all for Mini-Games. Go for it!
Q9. Hmm. . . I think a set salary, and if you don't get enough done, a cut in pay, (Detemined by how bad you did) and if you do very well, a bonus.(Set, or maybe how well you did,)
Q10. I think that that would help players feel a need to progress on the game, and not stay in one area for too long.
Q11. I like that idea. Good performance should give better experience, and after enough, you get promoted.
Q12. Hmm. . . This could get quite tricky. How would one go about such a system? Would you have to study up for a test, and pass it to get your degree in that class, or something like that? That might add some education to this game. . .
Q13. Ahh, Yes. The Dreaded Q13. Well, bigger than that platform of a city called StickRPG. . . Maybe multiple towns, or something like that. Hey, this could be a rather interesting thing to watch grow. Multiple towns would be nice, and a Driving Mini-Game for getting around? A house you can move around in. . . and move furniture around. . . hmm. . . Okay, I'm getting away from Q13. How large of a game should depend upon how large you feel you can/should make it.
Q14. Define "Poor and Rich parts." Are you talkin' about, a place where only those with $200,000+ in the bank can enter? Well, maybe places where you can only be invited too, and you need enough fame (That could be a nice addition, too!) to be invited.
Q15. Political issues? Well, although I hate to put that in my game, 'cause I play games to get away from such things, but if you can think of a fun way of adding it, go for it.
Q16. Both. Some poeple need a path to follow, while others like to pave thier own way.
Q17. A Muli-Player mode might be fun, but could also be a little hard for you to make. . . How about you make a world of infinate size, and people can own buisnesses, and. . . No, wait, that would be a little hard, wouldn't it? Well, it sounded good. . . If you feel like an peice-by-peice project, and have others to help you build it, you can make it something where it you can release patches with new areas, options, or other things, which would help in many ways, if made MP. Or it could be SP, in a similar way, where you don't need the latest update to play, but you can connect to whatever MP server to update, or play with others. It could be a little hard for you, the Dev, to make. Plus expencive. . . But, I'll get to that is Q18/Q19. An MP mode would allow people to connect and have fun with friends, while an offline SP mode would allow people whom don't want to connect to the internet/can't connect at that time/don't have great internet speeds, can play by themselves, and still have fun.
Q18. I say, build something free, and add more that has a price tag on it. Perhaps more additions, or premeum items, like a really nice sports car, that can only be bought from whatever store you make for your game, and will cost X.XX amount of money, or X amount of SuperCoins. . . which you'd cost money for them to buy/give away at events. (Maybe give away)
Q19. Hey, what are you looking at Q19 for? I answered this over at Q18! Look, it's just above Q19.

Additional Ideas/Feedback:
Well, I feel that this is a great idea, but I'm scared that after a while, you might drop the project, if you even really start. Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude there, but I don't know you, and I don't know if this will become a serious project. Had I any knowledge of programming, I'd help ya out, but since I don't I guess it's pointless to even say it. . . And, if you feel you need to scream at me, or want to say anything to me, you can contact me at kattfire@hotmail.com (I fear I won't be on here often, so I might not get your possible reply.)
I think that this would be a great thing to watch grow, and even greater thign to play, so I hope this project goes really well. Well, I might come up with something more usable later, but it's REALLY late. See ya!

1. Yes, I'd be willing to do so.

2. An acceptable file size is under 700 MB (it can fit on one CD).

3. I think it should have a couple tracks to keep the person playing happy while doing the mundane tasks typically associated with RPGs. These songs don't have to be complete tracks, maybe just 30 second loops.

4. It depends on how many situations the player can wind up in, like some music for a mini-game, some music for just moving around, some music for being inside a building. I guess that's 3 tracks.

5. Yes.

6. There should be at least a couple choices but the game should not be built around your character's career paths. I realize adding a job requires an immense addition to the game so I'd say 3 or 4 jobs would be fine.

7. Player should be able to follow any of the career paths.

8. Love the concept but you need to consider how much that slows down the player. I like the idea.

9. Yes; I wouldn't pay incompetent employees.

10. It depends; in reality you can go anywhere you want if you desire but it may require a lot of work. However, if you want to limit the player to a certain area, you need to do it in a semi-realistic way (i.e. "road closed" or "bank on holiday").

11. Love the idea and I think the mini-game should be determinant of the amount of money you make and the experience you gain.

12. Good idea.

13. Vast enough so that I don't get bored in 30 minutes of walking around but not like Oblivion where it takes me hours to get to somewhere.

14. If you want realism then yes.

15. It's a good idea and ties in with the Karma factor in the original SRPG which never really got used.

16. The only story should be an intro to how your character wound up wherever it presently is.

17. Not really since it requires network coding and it creates so many dependencies. Offline is good.

18. I'd be willing to pay

Question 1: Would you be willing to play a StickRPG like game in a 3D enviroment?

Hell yea! As long as it does not lag, because lag is the most annoying thing in a game.

Question 2: (If Question 1 was yes.) What is an acceptable file size for a game like this?

It depends on how many restriction you would have to make for a lower file size. But I would say 1 GB, if it means nothing will be taken out.

Question 3: Should this game include a small music library?

Yes.

Question 4: (If Question 4 was yes.) About how many songs would you like to see?

Enough to make the game interesting. Like a song for each area? Possibly be able to add your own songs.

Question 5: Should there be jobs within the game?

YES!

Question 6: (If Question 5 was yes.) About how many jobs should be within the game?

One from each major career area. Like law enforcement, politics, sports, musician, animal care, food, etc. I would say around 5-15.

Question 7: (If Question 5 was yes.) Should there be one linear career line or should there be options to follow many career different career lines?

As I said there should be different career areas. Each area would have it's own line of jobs that you get promoted too. (Like trainee, vice-chef, chef, restaurant owner)

Question 8: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about the concept about work being more detailed and instead of clicking to do work you could do mini-games?

Mini-games sound fun, as long as they are not repetitive and boring.

Question 9: (Question 8 extended) Should performance on the mini-game determine how much money you get for that work?

No, it should determine if you get a promotion, bonus, or if you get downsized/fired.

Question 10: Should there be limited access to things. (Example: If you don't have a car you can't go into the town which has the bank.)

In a way. If you have a car you would go to the town faster, but if you don't have a car you can still go into town but it would be much slower.

Question 11: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about a job experience system? (For example, if you do a shift at a fast food place you get 3 experience points. If you want the promotion you need at least 300 experience points.) or Should good performance on a mini-game determine if you get promoted.

Both. The more experience you have the easier the mini game. But the outcome of the mini game should determine if you get promoted/demoted.

Question 12: What do you think of an education system? (For example, getting specific degrees will open up different jobs.)

A good idea, but it should not take up TOO much time.

Question 13: How vast should the game land be?

As vast as possible.

Question 14: Should there be poor and rich parts in the game?

Yes.

Question 15: What do you feel about political issues being in a game?

If it will add fun and excitement by all means put it in. But if will get boring then skip it.

Question 16: Should the game follow a specific story line or should the game be free play or both.

Both.

Question 17: Would you like to see this game online where you could play with others?

That would be amazing! But only if lag would not exist.

Question 18: Would you be willing to pay for a game like this or should it be free?

I think you should release the full game for free, then have people pay for expansions/extra etc. Now unless the game can compete with other games (like the GTA series) then yes, it should cost something (not too much though). But I would really like to see it for free.

Question 19: (If Question 18 was free/no) What if the game was a small fee (under 10.00)

Depends on how good it is.

Question 1: Sure, as long as the gameplay is equal or close to it.

Question 2: Enough to not take an hour to load

Question 3: If you want.

Question 4: If you have a library, put in at least 10.

Question 5: Definetly.

Question 6: 2/3 careers.

Question 7: Different. Maybe evil/good?

Question 8: Sure, but would take a long time more to play.

Question 9: Yes, or no, not sure. Maybe there cant be a certain amount, only compelte or not.

Question 10: Sure!

Question 11: Experience.

Question 12: A good idea, maybe different schools for different paths and better schools than others. Maybe get some exp for jobs too?

Question 13: At least a bit larger than Srpg1.

Question 14: What?

Question 15: I think you should become mayor/kingpin near the end.

Question 16: Both.

Question 17: Naw.

Question 18: Possibly.

Question 19: 2 bucks? Or maybe a micropay thing where you can get more ingame money for paying. Actually, multiplayer would be cool.

Good luck!

Question 1: Would you be willing to play a StickRPG like game in a 3D enviroment?
No. Top down FTW. Unless it is Half-Life 3D. Then Do it. Do it!
Question 2: (If Question 1 was yes.) What is an acceptable file size for a game like this?
Depends on how much there is in the game. If it has a lot, then a few gigs maybe.
Question 3: Should this game include a small music library?
Hell yes
Question 4: (If Question 4 was yes.) About how many songs would you like to see?
One for each area
Question 5: Should there be jobs within the game?
-_-
It's an RPG, of course it needs to have jobs.
Question 6: (If Question 5 was yes.) About how many jobs should be within the game?
A ####load
Question 7: (If Question 5 was yes.) Should there be one linear career line or should there be options to follow many career different career lines?
Different career lines, preferably with begging as well.
Question 8: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about the concept about work being more detailed and instead of clicking to do work you could do mini-games?
Point-and-click. POINT-AND-CLICK!!!!!
Question 9: (Question 8 extended) Should performance on the mini-game determine how much money you get for that work?

Question 10: Should there be limited access to things. (Example: If you don't have a car you can't go into the town which has the bank.)
That's a bad example. Let's not forget buses. But yes.
Question 11: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about a job experience system? (For example, if you do a shift at a fast food place you get 3 experience points. If you want the promotion you need at least 300 experience points.) or Should good performance on a mini-game determine if you get promoted.
The first one. But include other stats as well.
Question 12: What do you think of an education system? (For example, getting specific degrees will open up different jobs.)
Like it a lot.
Question 13: How vast should the game land be?
A British county (that's a couple of hundred square miles)
Question 14: Should there be poor and rich parts in the game?
Hell yes.
Question 15: What do you feel about political issues being in a game?
That depends on the issues. If it's going to be a 'ROFLMAO BUSH IZ T3H ####!!!!' then no. If, however it's real political commentary (say, someone you cared about was murdered and the murderer didn't get found guilty despite the evidence) then yes.
Question 16: Should the game follow a specific story line or should the game be free play or both.
Story line. STORY LINE!
Question 17: Would you like to see this game online where you could play with others?
Make it an option, not the premise.
Question 18: Would you be willing to pay for a game like this or should it be free?
You're thinking about charging for it? #### that.
Question 19: (If Question 18 was free/no) What if the game was a small fee (under 10.00)
I repeat. #### that.

Hope I helped!

Question 1: Would you be willing to play a StickRPG like game in a 3D enviroment?
Itīs not important for me that itīs 3d. Isometric view is fine. But I definately would play such a game if I came across it.

Question 2: (If Question 1 was yes.) What is an acceptable file size for a game like this?
I donīt know much about file sizes for online games. Iīm usually able to play most of them.

Question 3: Should this game include a small music library?
It is not important. One can run WMP or Itunes simultaneously. Include the option to be able to turn off music though.

Question 4: (If Question 4 was yes.) About how many songs would you like to see?
-

Question 5: Should there be jobs within the game?
Yes, absolutly!

Question 6: (If Question 5 was yes.) About how many jobs should be within the game?
Donīt know, probably few in the Beta version and possibility for you to include more later. A classic RPG element is that some jobs require specific skills or a higher lev charachter.

Question 7: (If Question 5 was yes.) Should there be one linear career line or should there be options to follow many career different career lines?
Important: NON-LINEARITY!

Question 8: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about the concept about work being more detailed and instead of clicking to do work you could do mini-games?
Hard question... mini games that require player skill isnīt very RPG.

Question 9: (Question 8 extended) Should performance on the mini-game determine how much money you get for that work?
-

Question 10: Should there be limited access to things. (Example: If you don't have a car you can't go into the town which has the bank.)
To some extent. But you should avoid some terrible dead-ends... like if you have done some charachter bulild wrong you have to restart the game.

Question 11: (If Question 5 was yes.) What do you feel about a job experience system? (For example, if you do a shift at a fast food place you get 3 experience points. If you want the promotion you need at least 300 experience points.) or Should good performance on a mini-game determine if you get promoted.
You should probably use some kind of charachter leveling like that. But 3xp each up to 300 sounds rather little. Keep the grind at a small level. No "asian MMORPG-style" of grinding if you know what I mean.

Question 12: What do you think of an education system? (For example, getting specific degrees will open up different jobs.)
Yeah sounds good.

Question 13: How vast should the game land be?
Once again... not too big in Beta. But bigger (more cities?) later. This gives us opportunity to start playing earlier. Youīīll get feedback and can make changes later.

Question 14: Should there be poor and rich parts in the game?
Itīīs not very important for me.

Question 15: What do you feel about political issues being in a game?
Bring them in! I love political issues! (Important)

Question 16: Should the game follow a specific story line or should the game be free play or both.
Iīīd vote for Fallout-kind of openness and open ending. Ability to do what you want. I admit, I like stuff that is free.

Question 17: Would you like to see this game online where you could play with others?
Do you mean MMORPG? That wouldnīt be a SRPG-copy. Iīd go for single player. But the game can be online the same way SRPG is (in a web browser)

Question 18: Would you be willing to pay for a game like this or should it be free?
I donīt buy stuff from foreign countries online since I have no credit card. Iīd be too lazy to get myself the game if it wasnīt free.

Question 19: (If Question 18 was free/no) What if the game was a small fee (under 10.00)
Since it isnīt about the amount but the procedure, the answer is no.

Further comments:
Ability to do some missions would be great and make the game more complex. Working as a police and bring in thugs for example.
Turn-based combat!!

Thanks for those of you who have answered the questions. As of now I am waiting to get the engine which was somehow delayed. This week is testing so I will be unable to do work for the game until testing is finished and I am able to get my paws on the engine. Provided I can get my hands on the engine next week the game development will start on that Monday!

It looks like I'm to late to answer your questions...

Anyway, good luck on the game.
