Continued from this (http://forums.xgenstudios.com/showthread.php?t=88800) thread.

I have a choice between seven topics and decided to do: do violent television shows desensitize children?

I need some examples of this. I am not asking for anybody to write the whole thing out, I would not do that anyway because that is plagiarism, instead I am asking for possibly links or ideas that may help me write this essay? I was thinking of doing 3-5 strong points and discussing each. From my brainstorming I have come up with a few points.

-If the child is raised in a loving and caring environment he will not lose the sense of shock when watching a violent show, because he/she will understand that the norm is not to shoot someone in the face.

-If a child watches violent programs and at the same time he/she is tought the proper way to act he/she will favor the parents, if they are loving of course, and not get so used to the violence in shows.

I was also thinking of including a point about kids watching violent programs versus kids who don't, and how each one grows up. Basically I want to prove that it does not matter what you watch, perhaps there is a study on this? If so, I cannot find one.

I am still in the begging stages of my essay and any help will be appreciated.

It depends on the show and how violent the show is.

Yes, they do desensitize children to violence, but they do not actually provoke violent behavior. And there's nothing wrong with being desensitized to violence, it's actually a good thing in the chaotic dog-eat-dog world of today. And most children should know that just because they see something on TV that it doesn't necessarily make right in real life.

Desensitization is not a good thing, although it would make an interesting paper to argue otherwise. However, it does occur even in the context of a loving family. The only way to avoid it is to simply not expose yourself to the #### on TV.

What would be really interesting is if you could find tv news report archives from the last 20 years and compare them in 5-year intervalls to show how much violence is shown in th e news.

Your two points are currently opinions. You're going to need a few facts to back this up. Compare movies, special effects, violence on the streets between now and a significant amount of years ago. And then try to find a link to increasing violence in the media.

Hey, when I was a little kid (like 6 and 7 years old) I would watch movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and my favorite computer games were Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein 3D, and Rise of the Triad. I watched a lot of violent movies and played a lot of violent video games back then, and I still do today, and I would say that I am desensitized to violence, yet I have never actually done anything violent in real life. I've never hit someone, and I've never been in a fight. Violent media does not lead to violent behavior. The major cause of violent behavior are poverty and religion. If we can eliminate both, we can bring an end to violence.

Do you care when you see violence on TV or when you hear about serial killers or terrorist attacks?
