System of a Down is overrated

Doesn't ANYONE else think they're overrated? They're OK and all, but they're kinda "bleh" in my mind.

Fans say the singer is one of the best in Rock, but he's average at best. Their guitarist is a much better singer.

I have no hate for the band, but they're straight-forward rock at they're best.

I like SOAD, but yeah, their not necessarily the best band out there - pretty good. As for 'political rock' - not all of their songs are political, some are. Serj and the guitarist have really good views on stuff (politics), though the guitarist presents much greater of a skill level - he wrote all the songs, most lyrics, and plays and sings pretty well too. It's a good listening band - maybe not the best in history, and most songs have some flaw, but I still like 'em. But for that matter, I think most bands are overrated by their listeners, I mean, c'mon... They totally are.

His voice sounds pretty unique among other more generic vocals.
The other parts of their music I'm ok with, it's not my favorite though.
The guitarist isn't bad, but some of their songs just bother me.
Ex. Chop Suey.

SoaD is in a way different genre than U2 and Dave Matthews Band, you really can't compare them like that.

If you were basing that off my post, then I wasn't trying to say the voice wasn't the only good thing about them. I was saying it in the same sense that Kurt Cobain was such a great singer or that Layne Staley from Alice in Chains really had a voice that is really hard to imitate.

They are just in a different taste, if they are really popular, let them be. Ignore the people that heard the one song (Chop Suey or Question) from Fuse and think they're the best band ever. There's always going to be people like that for good bands, go figure. Saying they don't deserve to be popular whatsoever is not really the best thing to say about the band.

I honestly don't see alot of people in my school that really like System of a Down, and if they do, they don't publicly display it. I think I am one of the only 5 of my school that actually wears one of the SoaD shirt's to school. (Yes, alot of my wardrobe consists of band tee's, the other's are either solid colors or novelty shirts. :p)

I used to really like them, but I can't stand Serj's voice any more. I really cannot listen to them anymore. So yes, they are overrated.

They've got some great songs: Question!, Holy Mountains, and Toxicity are spectacular in my opinion, and many others are great. But I do agree that they're not "b3st band evar!!!1!" like some seem to believe.

I really like em, I never thought them to be over-rated. I like their songs, I love Serj's voice, and they've never really swayed towards the whole emo trend, which I like.

I can play that on guitar. Though it's really simple, so I guess that I could play it 3 months earler too.

But this doesn't make sense: every ####ing band is over-rated by their fans! Hell, Britney Spears, and Backstreet Boys and all that stuff was over-rated by their fans! Every, and I mean every, band is over-rated in this way. So, stop complaining, people. That's what fans do.

The only songs I might consider listening too now are Violent Pornography or Cigaro. Even if every song is unique, most of them are pretty boring. Personally, I think Serj should step down when their back from hiatus and let the guitarist lead. But that's never gonna happen

Ehh, those are their two worst songs in my opinion..

But the guitarist does do most of the stuff. He composed all the music, wrote a big piece of the lyrics, and does half of the singing. Serj is the most known member, but probably the least productive.

SOAD have said they smoke pot in an interview I read. John Dolmayan (drummer) also plays DnD, I think that's pretty cool.

I used to listen to them alot in the 7th grade and I thought they were the greatest band ever. Now I'll just listen to them every now and then if I can't decide what to listen to.

Daron (the guitarist) is a bit of a selfish prick. He's mentioned a few times that he has written enough songs to release ten CD's on his own. But all his stuff is emo ####, and nobody, especially Serj, wants a lot of that.

As for the band's quality, they are really in a genre of their own. They do what they do very well.

Having said that, though, I've listened to System since I was 8, and their music is the type that you develop an emotional scar-based attachment to.

Thats just because a lot of people like them extreemly well. They're just different and its something people arent used to so they think its better because its different. I personally like them.

I like them. I do think they are a little overrated. People say they are really really good and i just say they are nothing special. The guitarist does have a better voice than the singer.
