So far I've had two lessons, just me and my dad. My dad is already certified and is taking a refresher. After these next two I take a written exam and get the papers that allow me to do my4 open water test dives. I'm taking my T-dives in BVI (British Virgin Islands) during Feburary break. After that I get my level 1 certification card and am ready to dive on a marine bio school trip in April.

So I wanted to know If any other X-geners are divers.
Yes this is a duplicate thread, but I doubt anone will notice, SL the other one if you need to.

Watch out for helicopters sucking up water to put out forest fires.

I have always wanted to scuba dive.

It's the most incredible feeling ever, just hovering in a column of water. You should take lessons.

It is expensive though...

I will have to wait until I get older. :( I live no where near a place where I can scuba dive.

I have my PADI cert. Hanauma bay in Hawaii is an awesome dive if you ever get there.

It's kind of expensive, but it's really fun.

I got my PADI certification a while ago. I did a bunch of open water dives in the Carribean. Tres fun.

I got a PADI Open Water Diver qualification. I didn't do any diving in a pool, we straight in the sea. It was in Malta, in the Mediterranean.

Magnificent.

The written exam is the easiest thing ever.

Yeah, those written portions are a total joke.

It's multiple choice, and the questions are so easy a monkey could do it. Plus they let you try again as many times as you need to pass...

Someone I know failed his, and had to pay for the whole thing again.

He passed the written exam, and the actual dives, but on the technical exercises he failed the one that involves taking your jacket off when you're at the surface.

That sounds like a con to me. He still had half of his Open Water Diver qualification (I forget what that's called) but had to pay to do the other half again.

Also, when you guys say PADI certs, I take it you mean Open Water Diver? They showed me a load of DVDs (seriously, hours and hours) and they were the most boring things ever. I think 3/4 of it was advertising how good PADI are and what they sell.

Yes, we mean open water. The DVD's are pointless. I took my PDA with me and played video games the whole times.

I only remembered the stuff I read in the book, really. They shut me in a dark room (only one small light) and left me there for several hours. Death by DVD. Some stupid French woman couldn't operate the DVD player, so I tried to help, and she basically went

"non, non, non!"

I don't think she spoke English.

I was wrong, I'm doing a Noiwe (now-ee) certification but I have a PADI teacher. Not sure how thats gonna work out.

Today I had to end two hours early because some dumbass kid went into the pool with ringworm. I blame the parents.

When I went, it was in October. We were practically the only tourists in the mediterranean, so I had the lessons by myself, and I didn't have to go in a pool.
