I believe that this system of equations has no solution. Is my theory correct?
{3x - 3y = 18
{x + y = 3

Wrong. You can multiply both sides of either the first or second equations until you can eliminate either all of the x's or all of they y's when you combine the two.

They have a solution. Did you graph:

y = (3x - 18) / 3
y = 3 - x

?

3x - 3y = 18 / :3
x - y = 6 / + y
x = 6 + y

6 + y + y = 3 / -6
2y = -3 / :2
y = -1.5

x + (-1.5) = 3 / +1.5
x = 4.5
Fin.

A clever way to get people to do it for you. Very, very clever.

I gave him a hint, plus I'm guessing by the time the solution was posted he was in school, or didn't see it.
