converter

I'm looking for a converter to convert movies I download (legally) so I can put them on 8x dvd-r discs. I dob't want to spend a penny; and of course, I don't want to get spyware adware etc. Any sugestions?


Plus, if you have a suggestion as to what type of dvd disc I should use, post 'em too.
