View Full Version : Soccer skills.
My skills have been going down for the past few weeks and I don't know why. I play (or practice) soccer every Friday, taking shots and practicing my ball handling. But when it comes to playing a game at school, I can never finish a set-up from my friends. Even if the goal keeper is really short and crappy!
I also get really nervous when I get the ball (which normally doesn't happen to me) which makes me pass the ball either too slow or too fast.
I need tips on how to fix these mistakes and how to develop more skills, anyone here able to help?
Just try to be self confident. Whenever I felt I might screw up, I would always sing a song to myself about being the best(Even though I'm not :P).

Question: How old are you right now? That may have something to do with it.
And if you're concerned about your skills, the only way to improve is practice, practice, practice.

You should watch a few football matches. Take my home team Brazil for example. Watch a few of their matches and learn some skills and then go out and try them with your friends. ( if you have any )

Haven't you played any RPGs?
The key is grinding. grind those soccer levels until you own anyone else. Too bad there aren't any macros for real life. D;

I know I'm supposed to practice and practice, but anyone got tips on how to practice? Like drills and such?

I'd say just keep going for it and one day you'll have a good game which will give you the boost you need...just don't lose hope and keep believing that you're just having a bad day and never ever think otherwise...

It sounds like you just need to hammer some drills. Time. After time. After time, until you start sweating Gatorade.
If you'll be more specific with what you need, I probably have a few drills.

You're growing, I take it? As in, you're currently in your first growth spurt? Yea. Your body is possibly simply having trouble completely adapting to the sudden change.
As to nervousness: drink a thimble of whiskey before a match.

That's exactly what I was guessing. You may be experiencing a growth spurt, causing you to be less sure of yourself, both physically and mentally.

Or you're just simply "in a slump". Just keep practicing and don't give up on it.

Listen to me! (Judge Judy voice).
- When practicing, keep focus on your game. If your practicing alone, pretend that a goalkeeper is in front of you.
- Practice more than usual.
- Practice with a friend or your coach.
That's pretty much what I have to offer you. Use my advice and use it wisely, ;)
P.S: Most sport's player's have the same problem as you but dont worry! You might just be having a bad week or something like that.
I'm not playing for a club or league yet, I'm preparing for next year when I will sign up for it. I just need more specifics on what drills I should do, such as like shooting, finishing a cross or set-up, dribbling and other stuff.

Although this isn't focusing on the practicing stuff, you're going through growth stages during puberty, which will cause you to be less capable of handling yourself than you used to be. You'll eventually get used to it, but for the time being, you'll just have to grow through it.
