Should I get a Car?

I got no car, I'm poor, and I need help, all I got is $500, should I get a car if so can I get a decent one?

Hopefully you have a driver's licence. Save up to get a car that is actually half decent. If you want to buy one right now, don't expect to get a decent car, or one that even works. I have seen used cars (Not sold by dealers.) that range from 1K and above. Not sure if they work, though.

-Canadian- insurance rates for under-25 males ranges from 4 to 9 grand a year. If that's anywhere near the states, you'll be waiting a while.

When you live in a city like New York, a car is only worthwhile for out-of-city transportation; especially considering the public transit system there. Besides, if your parents are so adament about you getting a car, propose that they foot the bill (It's not as if 'everyone' has a car - most North American's don't).

My dad got exactly the same model as pictured here (http://www.write-on.co.uk/c15-2.jpg) for around the equivilent of $500.

Sure, it's no Lamborghini, but it gets you from A to B and you can use it for moving #### about.

I'm not sure about price, but Nissan has treated me well. The truck I was going to get before it dies lasted 19 years with nothing but fan belts and such replaced. Our minivan has lasted 8 years with no major repairs.

I'd say save up till you have like 2000 dollars, then get a decent car.
