God, I bet it sucks getting these questions all the time. and I apologize in advance.

I am interested in making a flash game, But I have no experience in flash or coding. I would be depending purely on knowledge I learn through tutorials.

This game is alot like I would want to make.

http://www.teagames.com/bmx.php

Except his version sucks in a BMXers point of view.

I would change the physics so you went more upward, and I would also make it do you would stand up while peddaling, and pedal faster. Id like to implement a few tricks. basic ones that would work with the 2d angle.

So basically i would draw a bike and a person, and make levels with big jumps. and assign tricks to certain keys to be performed in the air.

As well as being able to rotate like in that version.

Would this be terribly hard or can a newbie handle it?

Thanks for your time.

a lot of work went into that one. even if it wasnt accurate.

to make a better one expect a lot of time being spent in it.

I couldn't begin to tell u where to start. I suppose experimenting with slow rotations and acceleration.

I think it's too big of a project to start out on. The collision system must be immense. Even I couldn't do that.

damn. I wish it was easy. or i wish he would give me the source code so I could just tweak it.

But alas, he wont.

Thanks for your time guys.

I've actually been trying to figure out how to do that kind of physics for a while now. Thanks for giving me an example to look at. :D

Thing is, it looks like the ground could have been made with the line tool and curving. Like it didn't take much work.

lol, I don't think drawing the ground would be the hard part ;)

I know, that's my point. Take a whole bunch of time making the physics work and then spend a short amount on the graphics...?

Ah..well then yes, good point!

Man, that is EXTREMElY addictive.

Might you be thinking of trial bike (http://www.miniclip.com/trialbike.htm)?

no...its a quite old game...not flash...ill talk to my friends tomorrow..they might remember..

it was somenthing around motocross mania..not sure tought

That's an incredible collision system. I never thought that was possible in flash, but now I am proven wrong.

Like the Brown Cow, I'm going to experiment with this little idea myself.

this collision system is really good, but you can notice how slow the game runs....I think it actually makes lots of dots on the lines and ..well..the rest is pretty much predictable..

If you're willing, let me know what you come up with. :D
I wonder if you could simplify it down to a single point at the base of each wheel, if you weren't needing something quite as accurate...

I think the slowness is the graphics, as they're pretty intense, and look like they're drawn in Flash. Shoulda used bitmaps...

I'm confident I've figured out how he detected the collision, but how he got that to tie in with gravity and perfect alignment of the wheel base to the ground still has me thinking.

For detection, theres no doubt he used hitTest() along with getBounds(). That's the only way he could achieved that type of precision. I'm assuming that's what you were thinking as well.

I don't mind sharing what I figure out, but I don't blame the author of that game for keeping his method a secret. It's a brilliant setup.

Here's what I've got.

A nice collision detection can be found

http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/tutorials.html

there.

I didn't get it, to be honest. At all. But it works nicely and looks quite smooth.
