View Full Version : So far in my life, yesterday was the worst day off my life

Well, we had to put my dog to sleep yesterday, and I can't get over it. She's 15, which is old, and what happened is this:
The tendons that hold her stomach in place got loose, so eventually her stomach flipped completely over. At about 3pm yesterday, we noticed she was acting strange. She wasnt moving or doing much of anything. This is what makes me upset. If we would have taken her to the hostpitle(however you spell it) then, she would have been alrite. But, we didnt take her until 10 oclock at night, when she wouldnt eat, she couldnt throw up even though she tried, she couldnt move her back legs, her breathing was really fast, and she was sprawled on the floor, so all of her legs where sticking out. We took her in and the news wasnt good. They said she had been in shock for a while and that if we brought her into surgery, there would be a 50/50 chance of survival. So, we tried surgery, but, the stomach was just too badly damaged and we had to tell them to put her down. Of course, we werent there to say our last goodbyes because the hospitle was 45 minutes away.
It's really hard for this to happen, I can't stop crying. I was fine when I woke up this morning, because I had somewhat gotten over it, until I mistakenly took that back stairs down and saw my other dog, laying on the couch, where she used to have a best friend who would bark with her, at anything that passed by. But, today she was just laying there, with no one else, and I could tell she was sad. My dog had been there my whole life, considering she is only 1/2 year older than me, but now shes gone.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Sadly, the only advice I can give is to accept death as part of life. Sadly, nothing lives forever. My dog is probably going to have to be put to sleep as well in a few months. She's been in and out of surgery for the last year and she's been having incredible pain every once in a while. So I know what you're feeling, sort of. At least remotely.
At least your dog had a great time while she was alive, considering she was never alone.

I am sorry man, I really am. I do know your pain I almost had to put my dog to sleep but the day before he died. My advice is try to remember the good times.

I do remember those, but it makes me sadder.

My dog had been around my entire life, and just recently died. I still miss him, but I don't dwell on it. I've got a new dog, but as luck would have it, she's really old. And to make it even worse, she brings back memories of my Grandpa, who just died this summer...she was my Grandpa's dog.
Just remember, you'll get over it eventually.

Man, I know your pain. I had the same experience as kevinok. My dog was 13, I was 11 when it happened.
I had a friend with two dogs, and one of them died. The next day, he got home from school to find that his other dog had been hit by a car.
It must have been worse for his older sister, who stayed home from school that day because she was so sad.

It always sucks to lose a family pet. I had a similar situation, but it all gets better. Just spend extra attention with your other dog, and you'll both start to feel a little better.

yeah, thats bad i had a dog for almost my whole life and then he went a bit crazy and senile and had some seizures and my dad had to shoot him. Then there was this one time when a kitten of ours' guts were hanging out of its butt and i had to kill it, and my mom wouldnt even let me use a gun so i had to hit it on the head with a crowbar and it was so cute and it took me like 10 minutes to do it.
That is wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

Wow, now I don't feel that this is so bad I guess. What kind of human shoots their pets to kill them? They will put them to sleep in a painless process at your local vet...

It's always bad to lose a pet. Or anything or anyone you love. The pain seems unbearable at first, but it eventually fades. Always remember your dog though. That would be a respectful way to honor her legacy.
R.I.P, EMC's dog.

... you disgust me. You hit a kitten on the head with a crowbar? Go to hell and burn please. Honestly.
On a completely different note, how weak or stupid does one have to be to take 10 minutes to kill something with a crowbar? Sorry if this is the wrong topic to be asking this, but 10 minutes! Ahh! I'm guessing you're not entirely honest here.
'sides, I don't know anyone who has a crowbar hanging around the house. Honestly. As common as it may seem, I have never seen anyone who owns a crowbar.

I've got a crowbar out in my garage, a sledgehammer and axe, too.
Anyways, I think you should all read that poem by Patrick Lane (I think that's who it was, it was definitely Patrick something) about killing a kitten that had been hit by a bus. I think it was called "Because I Never Learned".
It doesn't have a lot to do with this, but it's a good poem anyway.

My cat died in may. May 5th after school. My friends say he kinda looked like garfield. I will always remember when he threw my finger puppet in the toilet my brother give me at my birthday. I still have it though.
