Yes, you could play D&D novel style. But this time, we're just writing a cool story and stuff.
I'll make up the character, anyone can continue on.

Estevur hated one such as the object he was looking upon. The figure stood almost twice the size of him, and almost twice as strong as Estevur.
The wizard took a few steps backwards cautiously, taking out a small spellbook from his pocket, opening slowly, not to alert the creature. To Estevur's dissapointment, the creature flinched, and started to follow Estevur, in a threatening way.
Estevur threw a curious glance at the creature, trying to identify the creature. From what he could see, it was an elemental. A very very strong one.
But it did not worry the wizard, for he had battled a few of these rock elementals before in the past. Strong, fast and scary, but not to the wizard.
The wizard had already prepared spells, anticipating that such event would happen in this tunnel. He never goes unprepared.
The wizard grinned and mumbled a few words, and to the elemental's dissapointment, the wizard dissapeared in a flash.
Estevur closed his spell-book, and started to wave his hands in circular motions. Mumbling a few words, invisible light to the elemental started to appear in Estevur's waving hands.
The elemental stopped wandering around the area searching for Estevur as a holding spell grasped his movement, making it unable to move at all!
Estevur, excited about casting his next spell to finish the elemental, was not quite finished with it yet. He wanted to torture the evil creature til it returns to its material plane!
The wizard started waving his hands again, mumbling not a few words, but many. It took nearly three minutes for the spell to be ready. He glanced around the room, looked back at the elemental, and shot the deadly spell...
