LOTR is Lord of the Rings in case you didn't know.

I saw a forum which liked Matrix better but in my real life everyone seems to like Lord of the Rings better. The only Matrix most liked was the first one. So I just want to see what you guys think.

Matrix Definitely.

Honestly, how can you compare the two?

They have nearly nothing in common.

Matrix, if there needs to be one.

What, do you just want to see Frodo running from place to place?

Because I saw another forum comparing them. Dammit! The whole thing is starting again.

The inspiration for the LOTR trilogy defeats the purpose of a poll; IMO. Tolkien's given a lot more to society than ... yet another action film.

LotR.

The first Matrix movie is excellent, but the other two are pretty terrible. LotR was consistently good.

Matrix just doesn't have the storyline that LOTR does.

They both rocked. But I will have to go with the Matrix.

Sperry gave it to you right there.

That film was mre than orcses blood and evil rings. The two series had nothing in common.

LOTR get's my vote.

And that is what most of my friends said. :)

I also agree with Brown Cow. I liked LotR a lot but it dragged on for so much at the end. The third movie seemed like it had 5 endings...

Out of all of those, I only liked the first Matrix and the second LOTR. I liked Matrix more, so I voted for that one.

The novel was over half a million words long. If you don't expect it to drag when transferred to the screen, you need to look at that number again.

I read the book, all three of them. Well, actually, I put it down halfway through the thrid one because it got boring.

HUGE Matrix fan right here.
I've watch each movie a minimum of 15 times. I know I've seen the first one about 25-30 times. What an awsome movie. Unfortunatly they get progressivly worse as they show more and more "real life" scenes than they do "matrix simulated" scenes. Its so much more interesting while they're in the Matrix.

I never got into LOTR. The whole mid-evil setting is really stale in my opinion.
And I never read the books so there was never any reason for me towatch the movies.

...Have you ever thought that maybe...just maybe, the highest grossing movies of the 2,000's, some of the highest rated movies on Yahoo, and most critically aclaimed series of all time might be worth watching, even if you haven't read the book?

Suffice it to say, the LOTR books own the Matrix films. As for the films, that's open debate. Tolkien was God.

...

Because maybe the little fourteen-year old fanboys went out and bought all that crap for no reason, hmm? The LOTR movie series is highly rated because the critics know that all of the little kids with nothing better to do than sit down and read a highly overrated book series are going to go see that movie. And it'd look real bad for the critics to nay a movie which then proceeds to recieve record revenue from the little kids' parents. Also, I wouldn't put it past the creators of the movie to bribe some of those critics, either.

Anyhow, the Matrix has an entirely behind-the-scenes storyline behind the one that most people reading these words think of. Ever take a look at the books 1981 or Fahrenheit 451? The Matrix has that type of storyline as well. You can also infer from the movie the dangers of technology, and other greatly ignored topics. And these are just a few out of the many topics that the Matrix series brings up.

Basically, if you're under... 16 or so, you're most likely not getting the entire point of the Matrix story. It's incredibly complex.

It truly is more than just about a little middle-aged hobbit with a trinket. Though it's not allegory (as noted by Tolkien), it's loaded with symbolism. Interesting, though - that the two stories are completely unrelated but have so much in common.

I'd vote for LOTR simply because I never watched any of the Matrix films. I started one and got bored and just stopped watching it. Lord of the Rings is a pretty good film, but is highly overrated. The second one was great, it didnt need to introduce people or close off the story but the other two really weren't as great as that one.

I never read a single LotR book. I thought they were awesome. So that disqualifies me as a Tolkien fanboy.
That being said, they were awesome in theatres, but not so much fun at home. They really benefit from the big screen.

I enjoyed the story and universe of the first Matrix movie. Once it was established that Neo could fly... no. It just got stupid. Okay, we need to be careful about machines and AI. I got that from the first movie. The second and third movies were superhero movies, and not very good ones. I liked when the agents were instoppable forces. I liked the element of having to be extremely cautious. The later movies were bland because Neo could just beat anyone. That's not very interesting.
And then they got all bogged down with the Achitect and all that. It was fine with the story of the first movie.
I liked The Animatrix too. That was based on the simpler world of the first movie, and some of the stories were great.

yes Animatrix was very good as well. I really like the one about the runner and obviously the two about how the machines first rebelled.
I forget the names. It's been a while since I've seen them. I'll go and watch them tomorow...today. I need sleep.
<.<

meh, I heard enough of it from my friends. plus the whole mid-evil genre isnt my thing.

Matrix, of course:)

I don't really liked LotR, the books nor the movies. The First matrix was a 4/5. the second was a 3/5,a nd the last one was a 1/5.

LOTR intertwines (sp?) different story arcs throughout the long series, (especially if you get the extended versions) and does it quite well. While there is plenty of action, it isn't some mindless popcorn flick. I wouldn't change the movie in the slightest.

(sigh) and then there is the Matrix. What started out awesome, ended very lackluster. While I do agree with Doug that there is a strong message within the movies, it is lost in psuedo-intelligent rambles that add nothing to the movies. On the upside, the action and message is great.
