Why do flash games play sooooo sloooooow when they're embedded in a web page? Telepath RPG must play at least 3 times faster when I'm just playing it on my hard drive than when I'm playing it off imageshack, or even my own web page. Just curious. :)

I think its because on your comp everything is already loaded from the get go.
From a webpage it takes time to load.
just a guess. idk.

Because you're downloading it. The download turns into a cache which you can clear, and it is no longer on your drive. That's how you look on the internet. You download each page.

Right--but once it's loaded, it's part of the cache on your hard drive, right? Or is it just running in RAM?

Ya once its loaded its in you a folder your browser caches it until it deletes it or you do.

Yeah, so it's on your hard drive. Is there something inherently slower about accessing it via a browser versus the standalone Flash player?

No. I haven't personally noticed any difference between having a swf file on your hard drive versus a website in regards to its speed.
I would uninstall your flashplayer plug-in for your browser and reinstall it and see if that makes a difference.

One thing that can degrade speed in the browser is if you have multiple browser window's open with a flash movie playing.
For example if you have stick arena playing in one window and your flash game running in another. Both are sharing processing, so they'll both run slower.
That's basically the only case that I've seen any significant difference in the framerate for a game running in a browser as opposed to the standalone player.

Hmm, better clear things up here...
The real answer, is that the flash plugin for browsers is naturally slower than with the main player. This has to do with how the various messages and events are handled within these two programs. You'll notice that the plugin for IE plays a lot faster than the plugin for Firefox. Again this has to do with how it's internally implemented for each browser.
Another factor would be if the game was being played full-screen/scaled in the browser. Flash has to do a lot more work in order to scale the vector graphics within the player to make it appear the right size.
However, from personal experience I can say that if you crank up the FPS in your game it will help improve the FPS in your IE browser (to a certain degree, i.e. going from 30fps to 45fps).
Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Yeah, I did notice that. Thanks for the info, Nex. ;)

Just make your game downloadable. That simple. :)
