1. Right click the desktop and create a new .TXT file called 'bat1.txt' (do NOT put the .txt ending unless it is visible when you make the file)
2. Open the TXT file and type in this code:
start
start bat1.bat
3. Save the file as a .bat file by clicking save as, then save file as, and then all file types.
4. You should now get a message saying changing a file extension will cause it to become unstable. Click yes to allow it to work
5. You should now see a new icon appear on the desktop siginifying a new file type (.bat), and it should be called bat1 (or bat1.bat IF you can see file extensions)
6. Double-click the file and it will execute until the computer runs out of virtual memory, causing it to freeze up and maybe crash
What happens is it makes a simple application that opens copies of itself which open copies of themselves which open more copies and....you get the idea lol.
NOTE: Only do this with old computers or ones that you want to to do a little "expirementing" with. If you want your computer to be safe, DO NOT DO THIS!

How would making it run solitaire crash a computer?
Hmm I could have a loooot of fun with the schools comps... Muhahaha! Let the Anarchy Commence!..... or you know... just screw up comps.... it'd be great if you could get it to run on start up :D

The program runs solitaire and then runs itself again, opening a new solitaire window. Not that hard of a concept to grasp. And it won't necessarily make your computer crash, but it will slow it down.

Ahh right okay...Thought it would crash but so what ,suppose it works.
It would just get annoying, over and over and over and over and over and over.... I love Copy+paste :P But Anyhoo, I'd love to write a program that prints:
Formating C:\...
.
.
.
.
.
.
And so on, I know a lot of people that might scare :P.
I find the most fun way to ruin a computer is to drop it off a building. That's usually way more entertaining.

Even funnier is making a script, having it run at startup and letting it restart the computer. That tends to confuse people even more.

Making it run solitaire works SO much better.
So, wouold you make the code like:
start
start bat1.bat
start solitaire.exe
Then, it would open multiple bat1's which would then open multiple solitaires...hmmm
DarkReality
06-23-2006, 03:53 AM
And if you put the "start solitaire.exe" into an infinite loop, then you'll REALLY #### it up quickly.

It doesn't crash your computer, just lags it.
I'm supposing ctrl+break, ctrl+c, ctrl+p or something like that would take it out of the loop.

Lmfao, my friend brandon knows the best virus. He sends it to people he hates. He sent it to this one kid and the kid had ti get a new computer. What it does, is sends all the power to a certain point, then once the power builds up to a high level, it goes to the hard drive and builds up untill it explodes. Some times, the computer actually blows up and can start a fire. (NOTE: if you are going to try to send such a virus to someone, it is often smart to turn the fan.)

I'm guessing Brandon is going to serve, or has served, time soon, for attempted murder, arson, sabbotage or something similar.
Seriously though. Sledge Hammer + Computer = More fun than typing some words.

Just to be a beacon of sense in a sea of idiocy, you can't affect hardware like that from software. There is no possible way to affect the powerflow in a computer without a screwdriver, wires, a soldering iron, or some large metal object.
A piece of software cannot, I repeat, cannot blow up your computer.
The most you can do from software is stop certain fans, which is an absolutely stupid thing for a script kiddie to do.
hothotho, your friend Brandon? He's a script kiddie. Distance yourself from him.
I thought there was something strange about that. Someone posted a picture of this old magazine article from the 19...40s? 50s, maybe? Anyway, it was old. And it was saying "Computer scare! People can blow you up using your computer!"

That's a design flaw in several Dell laptops. It occurs rarely, and they've recognized the problem.
Shouldn't they have a recall then, if their laptops are potentially deadly?

It was one laptop, and yes, they were recalled. They offered free replacements. It's old news, really.
A capacitor on the motherboard wasn't designed to take the heat which was applied to it in the area it was used. As such, it became hot and... well, exploded.

Dude... want to crash your computer in one second?
Windows key + R
Type in regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\i8042prt\Parameters
Create a new key: CrashOnCtrlScroll, with a value of 1.
Restart.
You'll get the blue screen of death when you hold the right control key and press the scroll lock button twice. Which should take you roughly a second to do.
I first learned this from tweakxp.com... This trick is helpful when a program you're using *cough*MechWarrior3*cough* crashes, and there's no response from the other commands. (alt-tab, etc.)
I have a question though. If I have to shut down the computer very quickly, is it more safe to do this and then cut the power, or to immediately cut the power?
Justin
06-23-2006, 04:49 PM
It wouldn't really matter either way. Unless you shut down properly, you may as well just hit the reset button.

Hmm... doesn't work for me. Possibly because I was confused at the concept of "click" and "desktop".
I made the .txt file with vi, and typed what you wanted.
I didn't save it because your explaination of how to required hardware that I didn't have. It also mentioned popup messages, which seemed foreign to me.
Everything else said to "click" an "icon" on the "desktop".
Don't be an idiot script-kiddie. Don't assume that everyone here is using a GUI.

Do you always have to whine, Andrew? The vast majority on these forums use a GUI; therefore it's quite acceptable to provide instructions that can both be understood and performed by that majority. Quit your goddamned whining already, Andrew, and put up with it. If you choose to use a different operating system/GUI/whatever than the majority, then you have chosen to reap the benefits and/or suffer the consequences. Viewing instructions that do not apply to you is but one of those consequences.
Honestly, I don't have half a clue on how to use any form of Linux, GUI or not. And I'm quite surprised that you didn't quote my above post and start #####ing about how not everyone uses XP and how I should be more intelligent and switch to some form of Linux, use open source programs, get FireFox and kill off Internet Explorer in any way possible.
Cliffs: Quit your effing whining.

I'd be perfectly fine if this was a useful program. My beef is that the script won't even run properly on Windows. I was running it on XP while #####ing about it; it opened about 200 windows and then stopped. Didn't slow the system at all. Didn't crash it. I just had to type 'exit' a few hundred times.
Since the OP is obviously an idiot, I saw no reason to limit my complaints to those that are his fault.

If you want to lag someone's computer just highlight EVERY shortcut on their desktop and hit enter, maybe even hit it like 5 times. It will open up every program on their desktop.
JoeyG

That, for some reason, does work. I'm not sure how opening 20 applications is easier for the system than opening 200 command lines, but it is.

Wow, you know, that's very usefull for when pressing the reset button, pressing the off button, and in some miraculous event of the computer developing a generator or large batterey that can supply energy for itself and thus taking out the plug wouldn't work either, then I'll be sure to use your script, and thus only have my computer start lagging, instead of going to cmd and typing shutdown -s -t 01.

For goodness sake! Why not just hit your computer with a hammer!
Even simpler, for Windows XP, try pressing "start" and then "Turn Off Computer" (or "Start" then "Shut Down" on Windows 95 and 98).
With Mac OS X, click the apple logo then "Shut Down" (or something like that, it may be "Turn Off").

Why the hell do you NOT? Is it cooler to not use a GUI? I'm pretty sure that nearly all computers that cost more than 10 dollars are capable of running at least a rudimentary GUI, and if it's an old version.
Besides, shouldn't you be able to translate what he said? If not, then I suggest you NOT use only a terminal.
