Linux and Lindows, because Lindows is just linux in a different wrapper.

Same wrapper, actually, so never mind.

Lol, I prefer linux for some stuff, but Windows for mostly everything. If Linux were compatible with everything Windows is, I'd definitely use it on my main computer.

I perfer Sky OS, but i don't use it, because i don't feel like poping the 30 bucks and my parents would never let me, but i use windows, and beacuse of security flaws i have had to resore my system 3 times, and i have norton.

WHOA!

Someone who knows what Sky OS is! If you don't wanna pay for it, try linux... if you can adapt to Sky OS, then you'll love Linux.

As soon as I get some money I am going to build a computer and put some versoin of Linux on it. I like Windows, but I am pretty sure the only reason I like it is because I have never had the chance to try anything else.

Linux is like a cat. You have to work for it's love. And once you have it, you questioned why you ever had anything else.

The only (and I mean absolute ONLY) reason I even have space on a hard drive in my computer for Windows is so that I can play The Sims 2 without problems. And by problems, I mean Cedega problems like incompatibilty. I'm still prone to windows problems which as you probably know have a tendency to appear for no real reason at all.

Did you know that Win98 actually fought with me when I was trying to install drivers for my on board sound card? HOW DO YOU CRASH AND FUSS WHEN I'M TRYING TO INSTALL A DRIVER THAT SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED ITSELF IN THE FIRST PLACE.

God, * < windows

linux is more like the house wife and windows is the hard working muscle man

linux sucks
windows works

DarkReality

*blinks*

*laughs*

define works, please. If you mean easy to use and so simple that any idiot will understand it, yes. That's most likely one of the only positive aspect of windows xp, the fact that it simply recognizes nearly everything you can attach with per USB.

The_Fuzz
10-07-2004, 01:40 PM
Idiots don't understan Windows, my friends all have it and they use it ok, but it's painfull to try and show them something on Ebaums world and they don't let you use the comp, and the all have fed their comps at least once, but they all love DYC.

c00lryguy

ScientistBlah

The fact is, until Linux becomes compatible with everything Windows is, Windows is going to be the Dominant OS.

The_Fuzz
10-07-2004, 02:12 PM
True, and then Linux will become dominant because there are LITTLE OT NO LINUX SECURITY PROBLEMS!

c00lry, I would LOVE to have you try and hack my linux box. I'll even give you my IP, and have my laptop in a DMZ for you. How's that sound. However, I'll be running a firewall, so I'm not handing my laptop over to you on a silver platter.

Get on aim and I'll give you my info.

Windows doesn't work too hot for me. It likes to not start when I turn on my computer unless I enter safe mode (with the obvious F8 key...) pretend to do something and restart.

Then maybe it works. Still glitchy though. Freezes a lot.

Mac OS X sorta combines the compatibility of Windows with the stability of Linux. It's also the king of multimedia.

ehntoo
10-07-2004, 08:46 PM
I'm only agreeing with part of that.

The whole "windows sucks" section was well written. OS X still isn't stable for me, although it's MUCH more stable than pre-10 Mac OS... *shudders* Oh, the nightmares...

It is the king of multimedia, but besides video editing and flash, I can do anything on linux you can do on windows or mac...

You couldn't nick the paint work off the side of a barn with a chainsaw, let alone hack a PC. Maybe you should try a Windows XP system first, then practice with the barn and chainsaw, hmm, lets say.... 3 years later.

Get rid of the firewall, turn on sshd. Give him an account, give him the port if it are changed, then leave your computer on over the night.

Lets see if he can get out of the home directory....

hehe... you really know your POSIX system... =P

I think he'd figure THAT out... there are shell tutorials on the net... =P

Although... I guess.. hmm... I could take the risk. There's NO way he could crack a root password in a UNIX hash, and there's little he could do without root access.

My knowledge is basic UNIX. If I put a config file in /usr/etc, it's because I used CRUX (linux) once. Didn't like it, by the way. :)

I would be using linux if it supported the plethra of games I play.

DarkReality
10-25-2004, 04:44 AM
Aren't there windows emulators that can do that by now? Wine, or WineX I think, can emulate games if I recall correctly. Or was it only a select few games?

ehntoo
10-25-2004, 03:09 PM
WineX no longer exists. Cedega is what it's called now, and it's a commercial product, and it doesn't work for 100% of all games.

DarkReality
10-25-2004, 03:14 PM
So I.... lied >_>

Wasn't WineX free? At least that's what I understood. The version of Wine I have is apparently free. How does a free product disappear? o.O

The_Fuzz
10-25-2004, 03:42 PM
I have a linux box, and if there wasn't so much code for wine i might use it, BUT I ALso have no internet on it so it is a pointless comp.

A word to windows: After having to load savepoints because windows ME kept giving me protection errors upon installing certain things (mostly freeware games, interesting enough), I discovered that passwords are saved in these savepoints. Especially Outlook passwords. But here's the greatest thing about it, should you delete your passwords from outlook (as in, not save them and have to enter them each time manually), they're still in the save points that happen automatically.

I found that highly interesting and then I asked myself, why not just make a big sign for any viruses or "hackers", telling them where to find all passwords.

Oh well. Not like it matters. It's only my email >_>
