EDIT: Nevermind I got it to work, that is really cool, I think you need to make it so that if you are going over a certain speed on the motorcycle and hit a wall you fall off.

wow..it rocks..but theres somenthing wrong with the left side of the truck“s..I assume its the drawn..meybe its in the wrong position..when u come with the bike backwards to it its ok, but with the front pat, u barelly get close to it..
also had some problems with the tuck geting stuck into other things O.o..expecially the unmoveable box...got both stuck in there in a fraction of seconds(they were pretty much close..im not a lame player)

im willing to c the next versions of it..hehe..its really good

I doubt Mr. Cow would create an engine like this and bother with trivial matters such as hit tests. The perfect hit test would be all programmed, not using Flash's trivial hitTest() function. He's simply showing us an idea. Let's try to ease up on "the tuck geting stuck into other things", shall we? :D

After all, did he not say there were problems with the hitTests? Hmmmmm?

Well, updates will be on the Brown Cow International forum, not here. So if you want to follow the progress of this game, you might want to join BCI [/clever advertisement].
(For example: Not uploaded, but I have a version now where things go kerboom when they take enough damage)

Yeah, no hitTest involved in that. I created a function that hitTests between circles. The truck (being very much not circular) has some issues with this. Better methods of hitTest will need to be developed for a full game.

I'm sure he probably will...But i don't think that is very close. This isn't what the game will be -- just driving around randomely -- It will actually have purpose...

Right. I'm thinking a sort of mission-based game. Kinda like the VR missions in Metal Gear. You have to complete various tasks, like destroying targets, or enemy vehicles, or getting through a maze. Should be fun.

Yes, I will a link to the complete game on this forum. Game updates will be Brown Cow International exclusive.

(One update, to get more people): Explosions, chain reactions, and sound effects will be posted soon.

why can't i destroy the grey box? is it metal or something? do you have scource code to give away? I like this idea, and want to tweak it a lil bit :)

I heard someone say that there meeds to be a smaller car in the game, I agree and vote for a Honda CRX

The cars are the most basic of graphics, I don't think you'd be able to tell much difference between various models, as of now at least-

yea' I guess but it's jus one of my favorite cars ever, almost, In vice city they even have a honda CRX in the game it's the ballista, I'll get one in muh driveway, in life, one day :)

A small car will be added (mini-cooper is likely).

Once weapons are functional, I'll add a helicopter and a tank (the engine is that flexible :) )

As for releasing the source: sorry but no. I'ma gonna keep this one for myself for the time being. After typing out 600 lines of code, you'd probably feel the same.

He probably used the Math class's Atan2 function to achieve this.

For the movie clip, you would set the _rotation attribute to...

_rotation = Math.atan2( _y-_root._ymouse, _x-_root._xmouse )*(180/Math.PI);

Note: the "*(180/Math.PI)" just converts the functions return value of radians into degrees.

When you shoot the gun and they guy is close to the explosion he either dies indefinantly or doesn't, there is not loss of health at all. I'm not trying to be mean, and you are probably working on that infact, I was just bringing it to your attention if you didn't notice.

Just a suggestion, (with the guns / walking) is that when the 'w' (up) key is pressed, you walk in the direction you are aiming , if 's' (down) it would be the oposite etc..

Oh and have the left and right keys rotate the way you are facing.

Ya, I notice most of the time when im right close the wall and shoot the wall, my internet freezes, which I really dont like, I think thats a glitch in the game.

Hrmm, one thing about it that I dislike, is whenever you minimize or something, then you maximize it again, you have to reselect the screen which makes you fire your gun and blow stuff up.

Just basic trig. It figures out the angle of the a line between the player and the mouse and attaches a missle clip to the stage, with an onEnterFrame handler that accelerates it along that line.

When first presented with trig you might feel a bit overwhelmed, but honestly it's not that hard. Like BC said you will learn about vectors and scalars during the first few weeks if not the first week of physics. If you've already learned slope then trig is simply the next step.

it has to do with right triangles(as thats pretty much all u do in trig). the distance from the mouse and the player is the hypotenuse.

god I hate physics.

I do not recomend it to those that dont want to persue a carrer in gaming.
Its a pain in the @$$

I like physics better than chemistry though. Not that I'm particularly good at either.

Projection is just the
x = len*Math.cos(ang);
y = len*Math.sin(ang);
code that you always see in driving game tutorials and such.

Taking a vector and turning it into its x and y components.

Flash can't move things at a 30 degree angle after all, so you have to figure out how much to move it in each direction that Flash can move in.
