I have no idea why they have censored music. The people who defend it say that kids shouldn't be listening to that kind of stuff, so they edit out the offending content. My question is why do they listen to it at all? Take my edited Encore CD my brother gave me. It is hilarious on what they do to edit it. There is one song featuring D12 that is seriously just the beats. I have noticed they now edit ANYTHING they think is offensive, and it just sucks. I have no idea why they have them in the first place, if the content is bad children just shouldn't listen to it. It kind of defeats the purpose of that music...

Precisely. But children are going to listen to it, regardless. They're more likely, however, to come across a censored version. Thus, their minds are less exposed to the filth that's so common in popular music today.

Um, not really... if you listen to that music, you listen to that music. And you know the real lyrics.

My teacher showed us a dubbed eminem video in Grade 6 as part of a 'media awareness' unit.
Why did they censor the words "gun" and "pistol"?

The lyrics were there for a reason. Because the lyricist intended it to be that way.

If it offends someone, maybe they shouldn't...y'know, listen to it? If you like the song but you don't like swearing, well, you SHOULD be out of luck.

There's this one Eminem song, "My Name Is"...I have the original, and heard the radio edited version.

The only thing that's the same? Eminem's voice, and the beats. The lyrics are ABSOLUTELY ****ED UP, it's not even worth listening to. Only for hilarity, it is.

But getting swearing into younger children's lives is just lame.

So you're against exposing kids to swearing AND against censoring?

o.O

The greatest irony is that movies about potheads, druggies, gangs and crime with quite visual killing are shown on TV at times when children have no problem turning it on. The word gun is censored sometimes, but Rambo blasting bad guys is considered cult. Everyone's seen Rambo. Or Rocky. And they both glorify violence and thrashing your opponent quite well.

But no, god forbid they hear Eminem say ####.

Oh ####, I said it. Woah! Censored!

Let's try this then: Steven Seagal is going to blast your brains to mush! He's going to violently break all your bones and then rape your skull.

No?

Oh ####.

Even if I wasn't allowed to listen to uncensored music at home, the effing TEACHERS play the mainstream rap with all the cursing...

They talk about that on South Park: Bigger Better and Uncut. When you look past the silly fart jokes on the movie, Matt Parker and Trey Stone are pretty smart fellas. Anyways, I agree with everything you said RDD.

South Park is absolutely brilliant. They manage to criticize society in the most vulgar way possible and still get famous for doing so. And besides, South Park is rather funny, too.

Music is censored because children are "impressionable." If parents are worried what their children are going to hear on the radio, then why do they let them listen to that stuff?

Also, the D12 wasn't censored for vulgar languafe, they did you a favor censoring Eminem's boyband.

RDD- It is pretty stupid they edit the music, but that other mediums of entertainment show as bad, if not worse, content. offtopic- South Park is alright, but Family Guy does about the same thing.

Joey- Like you said, most kids can piece together what is censored.

Random rapper- " You may think I suck, but I don't give a ____"
Hmm... rhymes with suck, and is edited... I dunno.

Yeah, if the song uses rhyming, it's kinda predictable. Our bus driver played Pretty Fly For A White Guy by the Offspring on the bus, and she attempted to censor it by stopping right before the curse, and then fast forwarding. It didn't work sometimes, but I didn't understand what they were saying anyway.

Did you watch South Park's take on Family guy? I guess not, it was a two parter. Funny as hell though. They say that the jokes on Family Guy are random and are usually very irrelevant to the plot. True, but I still find the random jokes to be funny. (Old Family Guy was better :/ )

This thread reminds me of a censored version of Anthrax's I'm the Man I heard on the radio.

"Now, we're, Anthrax
And we take no *Scroink!*"

A part of me died that day.

Ever heard a 3-year old who can barely speak yell "#### you!" to their grandmother?

Censored music does suck, and you can guess what is censored. I'm trying to think of a reason why music should be censored...

Think....

I guess so two year old kids don't say #### as their first word?

No.

So.. if you've never.... heard that word.... before? You won't.... say it...?

Well that's pointless.

Why did the child hear the word in the first place? It is ultimatly up to the parent on what content the child sees or hears. People sit and blame whatever the "evil" of the day is, when the parents are the ones that bought the offending material in the first place!

I really dont think it matter that much if someone censors the music or not becuase they dont know how easy it is to get the "explicit" version of the song. Click>Download>Bam!

Jeez....
