View Full Version : Immortality, anyone?

Coheed
03-07-2006, 04:31 PM
Someone offers you immortality, but in order to recieve the power of being immortal you have to kill someone else. You could kill the person however you want, but the person would be someone you've never met before. Would you do it?

Personally I don't think I'd have the balls to do it. Killing somebody would be too much of a task for me to do.

Bodadem
03-07-2006, 04:34 PM
I wouldn't WANT to do it.. Immortality would suck ass, and I'd probably end up trying to insult every person in the universe -- In alphabetical order!

For a few thousand dollars? Sure.

I wouldn't want Immortality, even if it was free. To much to do, you'd get bored fast, and have to pick a hobby, Bodadem has some good ideas. :p

Bodadem

Yeah, I thought of that all on my own. Aren't I clever?

Impulse
03-07-2006, 04:42 PM
Would you kill yourself for immortality?

Vagrant
03-07-2006, 04:54 PM
I wouldn't want immortality in the sense we think of it.

I mean, everybody you loved and cared for would die, you'd be lonely for eternity, you'd see the end of the world as we know it, and still be alive to witness all the suffering and pain, while being cold and empty yourself.

It's not the killing of the other person that's so much the problem, it's the problems related to immortality.

Ever see the movie "The Green Mile"

Honeycomb

I wouldent take it. Like they say people who have power tend to go insane and overuse it. I know it does that. Experiance has told me that before,

And nope I havent seen "The Green Mile."

As much as I hate to say it, I'd do it. Simply because I don't want to die.

About murdering someone they didn't know: If it was a life or death situation, i believe most people would do it, as much as they would refuse to admit it.

However, I agree with most people here about the immortality issue. It would be a misserable way to live.

Killing for immortality is not life or death, its for gaining something you want. It is comparable to saying "Would you kill for a new plasma big screen TV?" Its not something anyone needs, but it is something alot of people want.

...

stfun00b

Yes. Cause then I would serve my sentence and then kill again.

Plus, immortality, or invincibility?

If it's the second kind of immortality, then only you won't ever die from time, but you won't die from getting hurt either.

Edit: wtftiming. That wasn't for you screech

Posh Jibbons
03-07-2006, 05:47 PM
There's a biiig difference between a new tv and immortality.

The idea is the same, yeah.

Bodadem
03-07-2006, 06:12 PM
Yeah, Posh, the difference is that people -don't- want immortality and -do- want a new TV. =P

I'd do it. Just as long as the person in question is either a young child or an old and/or disabled woman.

Posh Jibbons

I don't...

DarkReality
03-07-2006, 06:43 PM
I'd do it. Killing someone I don't know? Where's the problem there? take a gun, pull the trigger, end of it. Close your eyes if you have to. Immortality? At the rate our world changes? Oh heck yes. And I mean, if we manage to kill ourselves, all one would have to do is hitch a ride on a space shuttle, take a lot of video games, and go look for new life.

Ever thought of this?

If you live forever and never die, what happens if the cops arrest you and give you a life sentence in jail?

DarkReality
03-07-2006, 06:53 PM
If I live forever, the cops couldn't arrest me. Assuming bullets don't harm me, of course. And assuming a hail of bullets sprouting from various machine guns wouldn't tear my flesh into bits and pieces.

Immortality? Maybe. Omnipotence/Q-ness? For sure!

03-07-2006, 07:15 PM
Why the heck would you even want imortatlity. I know you coulld see the whole word and its process, which i guess would be sorta cool but still. I would kill the person though, just for the heck of it.

DevonTheGreat

I would want immortality with the choice to knock myself off whenever I want. Which isn't immortality. Whatever.

You're IMMORTAL. Wait untill the human race kills itself, wait for the building to decay and collapse. You litterally have all the time in the world.

And if you cant survive a bullet then your truly aren't immortal.

noobpwner1
03-07-2006, 07:38 PM
I wouldn't. I couldn't stand immortality, pretty much for all the reasons Vagrant stated. Times change, and all your friends and family would pass, but you would live on.... forever.

Migg
03-07-2006, 07:41 PM
I would kinda. Only half immortal. Like when you hit the age 100, you age backwards instead of forwards.

Vince
03-07-2006, 07:43 PM
I wouldn't do it, to be honest yes I'm afraid as hell to die. I don't know where we go when we die and I'm ####ing scared, but I couldn't go through the pain of seeing my whole family die and my spouse (if I get one) and then having to live for an eternity.

I love paraphrasing, makes me feel like I accomplished something.

Kevim

I've been asked this question before when we read a book with an immortal family in reading class a few years back.

Back then I said yes in a heartbeat, but now that I have converted to the Buddhist religon, and I have gotten a little older, it took me a while to think if I would actually give up everything I believe in just for my own gain ( I would absolutly love immortality ), but then I thought, if I lived for ever, I could probably help enough people to make up for my horrible deed.

What I'm trying to say is, yes, I would do it. I have the ability to live everyday as a new day, I really don't get bored of things. I would also like to see the world change, and of course, being able to take a bullet to the head would be badass.

Screw that..I'd walk across the street right now and blow my neighbor's head off. The best kind of immortality is one where you can be hurt, but don't die. Like someone cuts your head off, but it fuses with your body again. That's the best kind. I'd definitely take it. Screw everyone else around me dying...too bad for them. You can call me what you want, I'm just looking out for numero uno.

Imagine immortality where your physical body can be completely destroyed, but you're still conscious. Still want to do it?

Define this "Immortality".
Do I age mentally?
Does my body decay?
Am I invincible?
Can I survive conditions such as loss of oxygen without being harmed?
Etc.
Etc.

It all comes down to how immortal I really am, because if I'm Godlike type immortal, which is completely, then yes, and there's enough to do for an eternity in this universe.

Now Stick.Fu, they can not believe in God and still be good people. It's not like they worship Satan or anything.

You shouldn't have anything against athiests, except for the ones that don't necessarily represent them all(I hope), that go and make a big deal out of the 10 Commandments on a Court House.

03-08-2006, 08:46 PM
What? Satan, Lucifer, Charon, Dante, Virgil (at my side, my guide and master), Gorgon, Medusa...they're all really good friends of mine.

Besides, if I was atheist, how could I be Satanist?

It's like an oxymoron.

Wew... CSI..... needless totally overdone special effects!

Yay!
....
-cough-

Hmmm....

In the case that you would also never age/get sick:
Pros:
-You could "pork", as aptly stated in Jibby's title, millions of people without having to worry about any VD's.
-Wait a few thousand years and then totally pwn history tests.

Cons:
-Everyone dies
-You would be ####ing bored cause if you did anything illegal and got a life sentance.... well, thats pretty rough... (thinks about how much anus would hurt)
-Get divorced = an eternity of alimony and child support

You won't age, you cannot be physically harmed, and you can kill yourself when you want. So if you live until your entire family passes and you don't feel like living anymore, you can die.

So if we are going by those rules, theres a good chance you'll be able to break out of the prison by head banging those cement walls, or just run it your way.
