Ok, lets' have a war. I am Bill Gate's evil clone, head of the Windows army.I need some officers and stuff. Who wants to be part of the other army? just request so. (the real idea here is the poll)

I got a Dual Boot, Windows XP and Mandriva. Only reason for Windows is cause I'm also kinda a gamer.

Hate Windows those.

And just saying, it's ignorant to group everything else as 'other'. Shoulda at least included the main (Windows, *nix, Mac, and 'Other')

You realize that Mac is a unix-based operating system, which throws it firmly into the category of "[wildcard]nix".. Might as well just say Linux, since that's what you mean.

I've got an XP/Ubuntu dualboot.

Definitely prefer the latter

I'm too lazy to do anything besides windows. Yeah, I know it sucks, but in about 1.5 years, I'll be getting a new laptop for college. I know this computer will last until then and still be good for gaming.

You're gunna get a Mac lappy, right, Vag?.. RIGHT?!

Mac OS X uses Darwin as a base. Darwin is not Unix, it's Unix LIKE. Quoting Wikipeida

Darwin first released by is a free, open source, Unix-like operating system Apple Computer in 2000. It is also the core set of components upon which Mac OS X was developed.

It's a based on the XNU kernel, which Apple developed. (Darwin also uses the XNU kernel)

EDIT: It seems XNU is based of Mach, a microkernel. As far as I can tell, NO connection.

I'm using a '98 Thinkpad that dual bootsXP and Win98, but I wish I had an Apple.

Reason I use windows? Compatibility.

All the high-end software and things I use are only for Windows, therefore im #####-whipped into using it.

*cries*

Justin
02-21-2006, 11:55 PM
Yeah. That's why I still dual-boot.

If I could get games and my work software for Linux, I wouldn't.

Yeah. That's why I still dual-boot.

If I could get games and my work software for Linux, I wouldn't.

Again, if I could, I would, but the drivers on my laptop do not allow for any departitioning once the drive is live. Even GParted and QTParted fail when trying. So, unless I want to spend thousands of dollars renewing the liscenses for all these softwares, im stuck with windows.... And really, So far on this laptop i've been pretty smart and I really haven't had any problems...

Ditto. But I've never paid for it. ;) (And never will.)

I have this really weird problem with paying for operating systems that only half-work.

I just realized that since the "Linux Wars", everybody seems to hate windows.

I guess n2 won.

Hehehe...

Guess so. For me, that had nothing to do with it, really. My dad got a Mac laptop, I played with it, I came back to Windows, I shouted at it for being crappy, it didn't fix itself.

Note the people saying they like windows have never used linux. Or at least 90% of them haven't, and the 10% that have prolly haven't used a modern distro.

I'll let you guess.

I admit, I have never used Linux.

Bodadem

Aye, the only reason they "prefer" windows is because it's all they've been exposed too, and they're too closed/weak-minded to consider the alternatives.

windows by far

Why?

And yeah, most the pro-Windows people havn't been exposed to Linux.

I hate to admit it, but I haven't used linux in a month.

Ubuntu + x2 processor == outdated software for all

I've been in windows altogether too much lately, too.

Linux may be better designed, but Windows is superior in terms of software support.

I sometimes boot Ubuntu off LiveCD.

Linux may be better designed, but Windows is superior in terms of software support.

Any why is that exactly?

Answer: Because of people like you who refuse to support Linux despite its exceptional higher caliber of design.

All I'm saying is that the logic you're using is a bit circular there ;)

Creating your own operating system is much better than buying one. Not only can you save money, but you can also gather information about your targets!

I've used windows all my life, and I've never gotten a virus/been hacked/gotten a BSOD. The only reason Windows seems so 'useless' is because people go to deranged game hack sites and download up to their eyes in spyware and trojans, and then subsequently move to blame their operating system and/or browser for the problem. Another good few people I know about love to play around with the folders in their root drive that warn you every time you open them about thr isks involved with chainging them. They zoom around the folders, see the useless-looking "autoexec.bat" and delete it because the can.

I use Fedora without a GUI. People ask me why I use such a usery distro when I just throw away all the graphics, and I respond that I really, really need gcc 4.1

Most of the time I use my Mac (for web-surfing in most cases, and word processing). I use Windows periodically to play Age of Empires and to repair the extensive damage my brother has caused with spyware and what-not.
