Does anybody out there think that pheromones actually work? When I say pheremones, I mean the kind they put into those special pheromone colognes. I would think they would break down over time - since we generate them fresh daily.
I've been trying one (pherlure cologne) and it appears to work amazingly. Or, thinking I have additional pheremones is causing me to be more confident (an attractive trait). I'm not so sure.
What do you guys think?
...Stop looking at me that way...

Certain aspects of what is sexually attractive is universally agreed upon across the human species, or nearly universal among particular cultures or regions, while other factors are determined more locally, among sub-cultures, or simply to the preferences of the individual, which may come about as a result of a variety of genetic and psychological factors. Sexual attractiveness of a person to another person depends on both persons;
Much of human sexual attractiveness is governed by physical attractiveness. This involves the senses, in the beginning especially:
* visual perception (how the other looks)
* audition (how the other sounds (in their voice and movements))
* olfaction (how the other smells, naturally or artificially; the wrong smell may be repulsive).
As with other animals, pheromones may also enter into the picture, though less significantly than in the case of other animals. Theoretically, the "wrong" pheromone smell may cause someone to be disliked, even when they would otherwise appear attractive. Frequently a pleasant smelling perfume is used to encourage the member of the opposite sex to more deeply inhale the air surrounding its wearer, increasing the probability that the pheromones from the individual will also be inhaled. The importance of pheromones in human relationships is probably limited and widely disputed, although it appears to have some scientific basis.

His question wasn't wether pheromones exist, or wether they cause attraction, his question was wether they actually have a significant effect when used in artificial scents, such as colognes.

Your nose has two sensors, conscious, and unconscious.
Conscious would be stuff like ketchup, stink bombs, etc.
Unconscious would be how pheromones affect your mind.
...ew. body spray pheromones could attract animals. wtf

And the wikipedia article mentioned that they may have an important effect. It's not as significant in humans at is in other creatures, but there is some scientific basis that it still plays a significantly larger factor than we commonly think.
Why do kids hate having their teddy bears / stuffed animals go through the wash? It loses the pheromones/smells. I absolutely love the wrists of my jackets for no apparent reason. It just smells good to me. I like the smell of my girlfriend's hair. Granted, that's more conscious, but it does play a fairly sizeable part in physical attraction.

Something's definately different (way better)when I use it . But it could just be in my mind...

Exactly. I wish I had that way with words...

Well, hopefully someone would already be attractive enough / have their life together before trying pheromones, Personally, I didn't buy the cologne because I thought I needed it, I just wanted to see if it would have a positive effect - I'll take advantage of advantages like that!

I'm pretty sure human pheromones would be composed differently than other animals. ;)

I believe they work, and colognes do work on girls and perfumes do work on guys :D
The original axe apparently has sex horomones in it that attracted horny females, but they got sued or something, but I might be wrong.

I think the whole "wear this cologn and hot women will have sex in your lviing room" persona is stupid. Natural pheremons should be good enough. The human race didn't deterriorate because someone ran out of axe. If a girl likes you enough to be smelling you, then you've already "won".

Pheromones can make you more attractive, but it won't make you into a sex bomb. Women will be more likely to look twice at you without knowing why but they won't rip off their clothes and scream "take me you manly stud!". A little work is still required. But it's probably a helpful boost in some situations.

Putting some on might be a confidence boost, but I truly doubt it adds to your sex appeal in a godlike way.

Take for example this forensics tournament I was at. This random girl started talking to me / hugging me. Is:
a) she just weird (forensics girls usually are)
b) this just normal, but I'm noticing it because I'm looking for results
c) the pheromones actually working?
I mean, there seem to be so many every-day situations that are enhanced that I am now a believer.
Then again, if you absolutely didn't believe they worked, you would probably attribute the same experiences to chance.
Too each his own.. And Dark, I agree with your defination 100%.

Use body sweat. It's the best way to ensure healthy children. People are naturally attracted to each other by smell, I read somewhere. Attracted to people who have an opposite immune system, in order to produce children who have a better immune system. Or something.
I forget.

Sadly sweat only works on certain women, as you said, depending on attraction. So it doesn't really boost your chances, it sort of makes them... quicker?... o.O
"OMG Your sweat smells seckseh!"
*tears off clothes*
"TAKE ME!"

I actually have jars of my own body sweat that I use for cologne.
I am not popular.

Interesting. Once I had a girlfriend that would always comment on how good I smelled. I worked fairly hard to smell good, of course. My girlfriend and I were very close. One day, A strange man hired me for a contract. My girl was the target. Later that evening, I chopped her head off with a Tachi that was made for me by a man from Tokyo, who was a grandmaster in fashoning blades. He is credited for creating the first sword made from carbonite-23. Long story short, Smell in general affects relationships with all women, even ones that are not romantic. Simply put, girls like a good smelling, freshly washed man.
