View Full Version : What X Corps is all about.

Cavefish
12-13-2003, 10:46 PM
The basic idea of the X Corps is simple: we need ambassadors. We need people to spread the word about our site here, and the games and community we're building.

The concept is common enough. more likely than not, your favorite band has a "street team" which is roughly the same thing. It's a gathering of like-minded, enthusiastic individuals willing to promote something they like. In addition, they also recieve awards; likely X Cash, in this instance.

So, with that introduction out of the way, I'd like to open recruitment for our Street team, our ambassadors, our X Corps. Please submit an application via e-mail to me at Alchahest@shaw.ca, including the following:
- Your name
- How I can contact you (email, icq, etc)
- An example of your enthusiasm (can be a custom graphic, a haiku, anything, really)
- A paragraph about why you think you'd make an excellent XCorps Recruit.

Please note that the reason I'm restricting entry to qualified people is that there will be rewards for participation, and I don't want to be handing out billions of X Cash a day. XCorps Recruits must have the hutzpah to continue producing results, not just join up and contribute whenever they feel they need a couple extra XCash.

Any questions or concerns will be addressed here in this thread.

Cheers,
Dave

Cavefish
12-15-2003, 02:52 AM
Basically, yes, it is to help advertise. which is why we aren't expecting team members to do it for free; there are going to be rewards and prizes for participation, usually in the form of X Cash.

and as for the referral system, yes, it's in place, but this is an attempt to make a more lasting presence for the site, by posting things in public places, like other forums. however, we do not want to see spam. discretion is a must when it comes to promotion of the site, we don't want to put off or anger anyone who may be a potential community member.

cheers

Well I use this as a sig for forums other than Xgen: http://venus.walagata.com/w/spittinglama24/52082156646.gif (http://www.xgenstudios.com). Would posting things in public places include graffiti?

Cavefish
12-15-2003, 10:27 AM
graffiti counts, yes, though not as much as convincing someone at say, google, to toss an xgen banner up on the main search page. but every little bit helps.

Do you know how much bucks you gotta pay Google to put an advertisement there? Lots , lots lots lots. And I don`t mean Xcash.

JOYA
12-15-2003, 02:08 PM
Well, god knows how many people see googles banners per day. Although maybe we could do the same on a smaller scale e.g. newgrounds.

By the way at the moment the only way I'm spreading the word about Xgen is through that sig, feel free to use it yourselves for other forums, just PM me and I'll send you the code. :D

I personally think a street team is the last thing xgen needs unless im overlooking something, if i am will u point it out to me, cuz were gettin lots of new members a day

Impulse
12-19-2003, 02:29 PM
though xgen is generating more and more members each week, half (or more) of the new members don't even bother to view, nor post in the forums.

I think xgen studios could use a street team, considering some other people on the forum may attend more forums than just xgen. With this idea in mind, the members of xgen could show other people(possibly by advertising the site in their signatures) how incredible xgen studios really is, and how fast it is developing.

members that attend other forums and that check out, and register to xgen's forums, will most likely already have experience with posting and such.

the rate of members joining xgen studios will dramatically increase, and with that, more of the new members will view and post in the forums! :)

What is the total point of this. What would a member of xcorps be doing daily?

Hypersolidsnake

Probably be finding opportunities to advertise for XGen....

Cavefish
12-19-2003, 09:55 PM
A member of the X Corps would be speaking to friends, posting in other areas of the internet (and offline) and basically helping build awareness of the site. Part of the reason I'm making people apply is that I need people with good communcation skills (grammar, spelling, a certain eloquence with words..) to help give out the positive image that we're trying to maintain.

I'll also outline certain specific tasks, to those that are chosen to be X Corps members, to them. Little "missions", if you will. These tasks will be worth x cash, mind you. I don't expect anything for free.

The First

Oh wow, more people to spam up everything. I personally find that a closer community of people that actually know each other is somewhat... more personal. Or do you want to have to keep track of 4000 posting members? I don't. Imagine trying to find your own thread among 4000 members, assuming each 4th member makes a new topic each day... or even each 100th member... thats 40 new topics a day. And then all 4000 post. That's chaos, if you ask me.

And yes, considering XGen is developing pretty slowly, I'd say wait with new members and look for people who can actually use flash (and have some experience in making GOOD games with it).

Impulse
12-20-2003, 12:15 PM
Heh :) Sorry for the confusion guys, what I really meant by Xgen Studios growing more and more each day, was meaning a flock of new members are joining the forums each day.

Imagine trying to find your own thread among 4000 members, assuming each 4th member makes a new topic each day... or even each 100th member... thats 40 new topics a day. And then all 4000 post. That's chaos, if you ask me.

And yes, considering XGen is developing pretty slowly

There is one solution to that problem DarkReality. The Search option.
All that is required of the search option, is to type in what you cannot find on the site, and it brings you there. Very quick reference if you ask me.

we can't expect all the new members to know something as useful as Flash, though, sometimes what they contribute to the forums, are even more useful than having a certain talent!

The First
12-20-2003, 04:32 PM
That wasn't my point, of course not everyone knows flash (*raises hand*). My point was that before we look for more members... nevermind... I don't run this place or this Street Team, have fun :-)

Jeff really seems to get the wrong idea about Skyism.

What in the ...world... does that have to do with X Corps? They're promoting Xgen, not a cult revolving around a flash-programming college student living in Canada...

Impulse
01-04-2004, 03:44 PM
indeed. X Corps is about promoting Xgen Studios to the next level, AND advertising. Some of us fail to understand this concept, and they are in need, to start heading towards this point, soon.

when the corps start, real-time, as in missions, we really need to know what we are doing by then.

I encourage any member of Xgen Studios, to send in an application to Dave (Cavefish), showing why YOU have got what it takes, to become the next member of the X Corps, and prove you can help promote Xgen Studios to the next level. :)

The First
01-04-2004, 04:29 PM
what is "the next level" after being on the front page with at least one game on nearly all major flash gaming sites (Newgrounds, and so on)? Out of curiousity... I mean, is the goal simply more people?

LARDROOM WO.o
01-04-2004, 04:41 PM
I think what he means by next level is:
Skye would become so popular that there would be screaming fans outside his house 24/7 and that everybody would have a poster with his mug on it in their house. Yeah and like paparazzi trying to ruin his reputation saying that skye was jacking off again in front off the computer instead of Making Cinderfall. That's probably the reason why Cind ain't out yet

kevinok
01-04-2004, 05:52 PM
Well something great I have found is some of Skye's games are already on many online top game lists or on the front page. As of this second I can remeber these:

FHM
Flashplayer.com
Newsground.com (For along time it was)
addictinggames.com

And many many others.

Impulse
01-04-2004, 05:53 PM
well, yes... I suppose one of the reasons of the creation of the Xcorps was to reel in more people to the site, and the reason why I also stated, AND advertising, to describe the XCorps' purpose. In this case, advertising is bringing more people to Xgen Studios.

though, the X Corps members do get rewards to help toward advertising the site, doesn't mean that is the only purpose we serve it. We help Xgen Studios grow, because it is something we are interested in, and would like to see popular for years to come.

kevinok
01-04-2004, 05:55 PM
Like for example me, I in no way need any xcash reward, I am in it to help XGen grow larger.

The First
01-05-2004, 09:36 AM
That's because you already have far too much XCash. If I had 100 000 XCash, I wouldn't want to do anything for XCash either, I'd do it for the sake of doing it.

Since when do you need an elite group of people to advertise for XGen? Why not get every member to advertise, rather than accepting only a few to officially advertise?

kevinok
01-05-2004, 03:09 PM
That is what I said at the start.

Impulse

Being granted/entrusted to recruit members into the X Corps by Dave, all of those out there that think they have got what it takes, and are interested in joining the X corps, please send in an application to Cavefish (Dave), and/or I via. email.

I highly suggest anyone intrigued by XGen Studios' street team (the X Corps), to gather all of your skills and talents into one application, and see if you qualify.

just to clarify the benefits of being in the street team...

·Rewards
- the rewards will usually consist of money (xcash), etc.
·Recognition
- being part of XGen Studios' street team could make a name for yourself, being part of a quickly growing community/gaming site, you would be admired by many.

Those who are chosen, will surefully help the X Corps expand, and become even better than it is, with the lead of Cavefish. email me at devast8d@hotmail.com . Dave's contact info. is located on the first page of the topic.

See you on the team,

Dave (Cavefish) is the leader of the XCorps for a number of reasons. Those being;

*He has common sense
*He's a good leader-- he knows when something's up, and also, knows when someone suggests a good idea
*He's Skye's personal friend
*He is in a band with Skye (XKGB-- http://www.purevolume.com/xkgb)

Yes, he's here. When he needs to be, at least. Thank you for reviving this thread and showing your interest.

Though Dave has been very busy with MotherLoad (and other projects), we are starting to become active again. I don't know how often he is going to check and respond applications from his e-mail, so please don't expect him to get-to it right away.

And to XCorps and potential members of the team: Bandit claimed rewards couldn't be handed out in any form. Well, according to Dave, Xcash will exist again. Then and there, we will be rewarded for our good-doing (if we do good ;))

It's called the Newb's Help Forum. You can post all your questions there.

XCorps Forum isn't too active right now anyway. Last post Oct 17. So just pretend you're in it and spread XGen.
