Heroes:
Originally entitled 'Heroes of Might and Magic', the game titles were shortened to simply 'Might and Magic' after the third sequal (not including expansions/remakes) was released. A turn-based game, the original game was intended for anywhere from one to four human players, the others being computers. With each sequal to the game, the graphics imporved by leaps and bounds- along with the addition of dozens of new creatures and playing modes. Below is a screenshot, with following information regarding, of this game:

A screenshot of a battle in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Eratia; the specific game is entitled 'Myth and Legend'.
AOE:
Although a smaller series (in terms of game releases), AOE has become more popular in the game industry for its real-time aspect; instead of the turn-based system. The original game, though lacking in graphics, had an exquisite storyline for those interested in that specific format. With only two sequals released, there have been amazing changes for this game's graphics. As I'm sure you're all much more aware of that game, I won't post a screenshot. That and MPE messed it up.
Anyway. Which, of these games, in your own opinion, is the better? Yes; I'm asking you to pick.

Yes for Heroes III the graphics were crappy, but in IV it was like a mix of 2 and 3D, very realistic, very sweet.
Heroes is awesome, does anyone know when Heroes V is coming out?

Damn, this is a tough decision. I've played Heroes 3 and AOE2, not three, but I've seen my brother play. I'd have to say I like AOE3 slightly more.
Edit: I voted to Heroes, though, because I like Heroes more than the previous AOE's.
Second Edit: I missed and clicked the AOE series on the poll.

What are you talking about? The game came out in '99. The game's graphics were good for the time, not earth shattering, but good.
I was a die-hard Heroes fan, it was my first taste of Turn-based gaming, and the game itself was revolutionairy. It was one of the first games in which play styles were not transferable depending on your race.
The gameplay of that was great. Not only were you forced to be tactical in resource gathering, diplomacy, and where to deploy your army, you had to be tactical in the actual battle. Many a time I fought a battle outnumbered, our ina worse situation but one simply because of how you handle the situation.
As for AoE? It was a pretty good game, and AoE 4 has Havok engine, so it's definately asthetically pleasing but Havok is actually poorly implemented. When does the caninbal roll down hill and smash the tree that pins the villager to the floor?
AoE is a game that you could basically get down to the 'T', and then you were basically done. I thought Rise of Nations did a much better job in combat, as flanking actually did something, where as AoE tactics (not strategy) didn't pay off.
Back to Heroes, it wasn't only a real time strategy, it required tactics (tactics are during the battle, strategy is rather 'pre-battle.') E.g. if their strongest unit requires crystals, you simply might try to go for crystals. You might try to lure them around with a 'Throng' of weak guys only for your Titans to smash 'em to bits.
I'm not bashing AoE, it was a great game, and AoE 4 was an upgrade from the previous, substantially, it just lacked tactics.
And actually Heroes 4 was horrible. I still have Heroes 3 on my computer, but I've un-installed Heroes 4.
If anyone wants to try out a phenominal underdog game, try out Heroes 3.

I am one of the first to own AOE 3.
I had a 16 month Pre-order on Heroes 3. By some divine computer error, I got my version 2 weeks earlier than anyone else (excluding the other 3 people who had a 16 month pre-order in my municipality).
