War of the Worlds - eardrums destroyed by that ***** Dakota Fanning's constant screaming.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith - Trailer looked like a great comedy. Wasted all thier funny/interesting/good stuff on the trailer and filled the rest of the 2 hours with crap.

I have yet to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I don't plan to. I do know, however, that I have seen and dislike War of the Worlds.

If you wanted to see a good movie around the time those movies were in theatres, you should have went to see Batman: Begins. Now that movie was stunning.

The one thing that troubled me with the ending of war of the worlds...

If those machines were able to travel through a complete vaccum, then how could bacteria, which last i checked was a "tinsy" bit large than an oxygen atom, infect it?

bacteria are cells, made up of many many molecules, and thus are much bigger than a lone oxygen atom

edit: I have seen neither of the movies but I have the old war of the worlds on dvd, never actually watched all of it though

Tinsy?

Bacteria are cells. Cells are relatively large compared to atoms.

Do you mean viruses? Viruses are much smaller, and are basically protein capsules. Even still, they're a lot larger than oxygen atoms.

I know, thats my whole point. In the end of the movie, the aliens die because of all the bacteria and viruses and such, yet, how could they be infected?

So, what im saying was the machines they were in could withstand a vaccum, yet, couldn't keep diseases out? Doesn't make any sense.

Yes, i know a cell is bigger than an atom. Geez...

I also know that the bohr model was disproved by heisenbergs uncertainty principle and that avagadro's # is 6.022e-6 and that energy is equal to planck's constant times frequency and that metaloids can gain or lose its valence electrons to become more stable....

but im rambling...

Do I want to die by dissolved slowly in acid or by the blade of a sadistic serial killer?

I'd like to think I'm rational enough to choose neither. Not to mention spending 8 bucks for the pleasure.

Garbage.

Batman: Begins. Now that movie was stunning.

...because replacing any and all fighting choreography with close-ups of blurred limbs is what makes an action movie really shine. I've always said that the one thing that action movies need less of is action.

The best action movie I saw was Borne Identity.

I know, thats my whole point. In the end of the movie, the aliens die because of all the bacteria and viruses and such, yet, how could they be infected?

1) Do you know how viruses work? They get into a host's cells, and alter the DNA or tRNA to tell the ribosomes to reproduce more of the virus, rather than normal cell functions. Thus, the more cells the virus infects, the harder it is to stop a virus.
2) It's called a "space ship." According to the book, Mars doesn't have any diseases/bacteria'/viruses scurrying about when the Martians left their planet. Thus, they had no immune systems, and were easily wiped out.

I also know that the bohr model was disproved by heisenbergs uncertainty principle and that avagadro's # is 6.022e-6 and that energy is equal to planck's constant times frequency and that metaloids can gain or lose its valence electrons to become more stable....

That's irrelevant.

I was displeased with both of them, but less disappointed with War of the Worlds.

However, I did make Mr. and Mrs. Smith an enjoyable movie when I saw it. It was in a movie theater in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, (Where the University of Alabama plays) and I yelled out "Go Auburn!". With Auburn being their bitter rivals, the whole theater went up into a ruckus.... quite funny. :)

I'm going to restate Torrent's argument for the slow:

Martian machines travelled through space.
->Martian machines airtight and secure enough to withstand a vacuum

And suddenly bacteria or viri are supposed to be able to penetrate solid material capable of withstanding a vacuum? I have read neither the book nor seen the movie, but that sounds a bit... odd. "Mars Attacks" sounds more believable that that :D

And Batman Begins was a great movie. I won't state why because it will sound like one of those reviews that glorify it beyond recognition. Mr. And Mrs. Smith was good as well. Interesting idea, at least.

WoTW, though only in literature format.

The Aliens left their ships in the movie, perhaps thats how they got infected? They also brought humans into the ship where they took their blood or whatever. Remember the part where you see the Asian guy got sucked in and the aliens are hovering over him? Must've recieved bacteria or whatever from him. Then there was the part where the aliens walked through the basement of the house. The ending was terrible though. But Mr. and Mrs. Smith was horrid.

The machines were in the earth already. They teleported drivers.

War of the worlds was too "OMG The world is going to end I better... wait, my daughter is crying. Time to play the good daddy and ignore the fact that millions of people are dying around me, being killed by martian death rays". In other words, too much Cruise and kid and too little alien death rays. At least so I've been told by people who didn't like it.
