I wanted Latin or Chinese, but our school only has French/Spanish. And my brother (not HELLFIRE, an older one) already knows French.

Ay! No one else is taking German? ;_;
I am. I'm liking it so far, and it's easier than I thought it'd be. Not to say that it's easy, though. It's those Direct Objects that are killing me now. But then again, I'm only in beginning German.

Chinese all the way! Our school doesn't teach Chinese, but I am just teaching myself.
I also learnt a bit of German, but all I can remember now is 'das ist mein hamburger!' (that is my hamburger!)

Im taking spanish.
I wish i took something else.
Why do we need to learn a nother language when we haven't mastered english (in Mass)
The First

because you're not the mass. Some people may not have mastered english, but you don't need to master a language to be able to speak it. You won't master any foreign language at school, yet after 6 years of spanish, you'll be able to hold quite a conversation (assuming you actually tried and wanted to learn it).

It depends on your definition of mastering a language, really...
I probably don't know at least 2/3 of the English language, but I how how to use things if I learn them...I consider that mastery.

I didn't really expect anyone to know the entire english language... with all the exceptions and rules and whatnot :p, but you can still learn a different language without "mastering" (however you want to define it) it.

I mean a "basic" plus understanding.
When i said in Mass I ment the State Massachusetts, where we have the barest Edu. budget in the US, my school hasen't been renivated since 1962! It's older than my parents, we ust the same stuff from the 90's (early) Some of my teacher had my parents and worked with my grandfather (former principal)

I could of chosen to learn one of three languages, spanish, french, or latin, so I chose spanish because I thought it would be the most useful of the three being offered.

As an update for my foreign languages...
I am now in the second semester of Latin 1, and doing very well.
For next year, I plan on taking Latin 2 and (credits allow) Spanish 1.
