Which name would you rather call your home planet?
I personally think 'Earth' is a really awful name and have stuck to calling the planet Terra. Aside from a few strange looks people* generally think it's a much more awesome name
I know it's an odd question, but what would you like our planet to be called? Earth, Terra, or something totally different? I can't wait to read your lame jokes, and the few serious suggested names.

Why does it even need a name?
Also, Terra is a Terra-bil name.
Terra would certainly fit with the Roman god/dess theme for naming the planets.
I prefer Earth though. Call me a traditionalist.

Terra Firma would be the word for earth, and then Terra for Earth.

I'm yet to see a real reason to rename earth. I know that people want to give it a proper name, similar to how we call our sun 'Sun' and our moon 'moon.'
They won't change.
Well the Sun is Sol, and the Moon is Luna. Makes sense then, to make Earth Terra. Even if I think we should stick with Earth.

An exotic name for something so ubiquitous in our existence just seems wrong. It's appropriate that we refer to it with a familiar term. Calling Earth Terra just seems like addressing your own mother by her maiden name. Sure, it makes sense, but the alien formality seems out of place. It's probably more acceptable to call the Sun and the Moon Sol and Luna because they're a bit more removed, but they're also not unique. There are other suns and moons out there so we need a name to differentiate between those and ours. As far as we know, this is the only life-substaining rock anywhere.

A lot of other languages call it that too. Also when looking at it in a solar system point of view, or a galaxy point of view, it's a lot more fitting and nicer looking. Also it sounds cooler. Also I apparently like saying also.

Kind of pointless to give it an "official" name as any extraterrestrial life form we encounter wouldn't know what to do with our labels for planets anyway. And changing a word just for the sake of changing it is pretty stupid. We don't call chocolate "lactated polysaccharide bar" either.
But if we have to call it something different, then it has to be "Sol 3." That sounds all space-y and poop.

Sol 3 here.
Sol and Luna are both awesome names as well.
They are in the same sense that Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto are.
By which I mean not particularly. They're just Roman.
Although I do see your point with Earthlings v. Terrans. I'd much rather be called a Terran than an Earthling. That's probably campy science fiction's fault, though.

Luna is the Latin name for the moon, and yes, it is as official as it gets. "Lunar" being the term scientists use when something's related to the moon, I'd assume that it's valid.

Actually, there has been bacteria on Mars. A living organism. But who in the right mind cares, it's a germ. It WAS there is the problem now. On to the topic: Earth suits the planet fine. Terra makes the planet sound like it's a terror.

That's why I said as far as we know. I'm saying for the time being, there's no need to be referred to as an earthling. And I'm pretty sure that even if other lifeforms came, we could just call them by whatever planet they're from and consider calling us people.

I see where you're coming from, but that is because we reefer good things as women. Like lots of fancy cars are reefered to as "shes" because hot women are the equivalent of the look of their cars.
Mother Earth would be the same, but probably more like a mature woman, as earth is so old. Thus, 'mother'.
And 'mother' isn't exactly a woman name, so it is different.

Through human history, the belief has often been that we were created from the Earth, thus the Earth was our mother, and again, we have Mother Earth. Not simply the anthropomorphization of an object.
