Anyone ever been trap shooting? Also known as skeet shooting, it's when you launch clay discs out and shoot them with a shotgun to mimic bird hunting. I just went today, and posted a video (http://www.dominickgatto.com/?p=100) of the event.
It was a really good time. Anyone here in the New Jersey/New York area that wants to go with me next time?

It is very hard to hit a target that is moving not only left or right, but away from you.

Nice but from the looks of it, it seems like you did pretty well.

I have a lot of hunting and firearm experience, so it was pretty natural to me. My girlfriend came along and shot too - she did pretty well for someone who never shot a shotgun before.

Yeah, trap shooting's a lot of fun...
I just need my own shotgun, our gun club has a trap shooting range...
The last time I did it, I hit the pigeons 90+% of the time (I got in the upper 40's out of around 50 pigeons)...

Not bad IFD! I went on some good streaks during practice, but the best I got in the official competition rounds was 8/10.

Was that English?

I was doing it for fun, but I've never done it for competition...
Rifle team is my shooting sport...
I'm currently residing in South Jersey, lets do it!
How much does this cost?

However much the shotgun shells and clay pigeons you buy cost...
I don't remember well, but I think I saw a box of 100 pigeons for either 15 or 25 dollars. And shells cost around a quarter a peice...

Yeah, but I don't know how much that costs. And since you didn't give me an actual number, I'm tending to believe you don't know either. Great post, sir, great post.

With the people I went with, it was $30 to be there, and $7 for a box of 25 shells. You have to supply your own gun.

The greatest joy I've gotten out of skeet shooting is watching me miss five or six times and then losing all interest

It's quite simple then: you need to learn how to shoot. If you are missing more than 5 or 6 times in a row obviously your stance isn't correct, you aren't aiming correctly, you aren't leading your target, or it is possible that the gun was not sighted properly.
Don't give up.

I went to the place where you shoot toys and whatnot. I only got 2/10. =(

What distance were you shooting from, and with what kind of gun?

5-7 meters with a rifle that shoots little aluminum pellets.

I go about twice, or even more a month. Generally interested in paintball however, as this starts to get too easy for me after a couple of shots, I generally do up to 3 disks at once. Really fun time :)

I've gone out doing something similar, except we just use one of those clay pigeon flinging things (sorry for my lack of knowledge) and one person flings clay pigeons and one shoots them. Pretty self explanatory.
Either way, this looks pretty fun, nonetheless much harder.

Thanks, but I worked out that I'm doing something wrong all on my own :-p
I generally prefer something like paintball anyway. I'd sort of ADD-ish like that.
