Pretty simple actually. The amount of numbers he counts will stop you from landing on certain squares, which he safely removes. Then it all happens again.

You can number each square with either a 1 or a 2 at each step, where a 1 means you need an odd number of moves, and 2 means an even, and he simply removes a 1 if he says an even number at the end, or a 2 if he says an odd at the end.

He's not predicting movements at all. He's predicting outcomes which isn't that difficult. Clever, but nothing that warrants a capitalized title.

Clever but maybe you should think of a logical explanation seeing that he set parameters for you and he's not in close proximity to you.
