View Full Version : Project 10 to the 100
http://www.project10tothe100.com/
This is what I saw opening my browser today. As I understand it, Google received 150-some thousand ideas and now we're supposed to vote on a select few which we like the best. Google has then pledged $10 Million to help make the top-voting ideas become a reality.
I think it's a great idea, giving anyone with internet access the opportunity to get their ideas heard and possibly invested in.
Post your thoughts or interesting ideas you think we should vote on. Or bad ideas you think are stupid to be up there.
I voted for this: http://www.project10tothe100.com/submit.html?id=T06
As an aspiring teacher, education is very important to me. Also, anyone who's read Greg Mortenson's book "Three Cups of Tea" knows how valuable education is to those in impoverished nations.

So many good ideas, so little time <.<
I too voted for http://www.project10tothe100.com/submit.html?id=T06, since education is incredibly essential, especially in impoverished countries in like ones in Africa.

"Make the government transparent, allow people to govern themselves aka get rid of politics."
I don't have the link but the idea seemed like the most reasonable one.
Also the least likely to happen, even with 10 Million dollars.

I think I voted for this one.

Collect and organize the world's urban data (http://www.project10tothe100.com/submit.html?id=T07). I think this is the most easily achievable and convenient idea. It would be publicly accessible allowing people to track information for entertainment or other many other purposes such as advertising, easy access to information for school projects, etc. and the it would be user friendly and probably user contributed. It would also evolve as many broad ideas, like this one, do into some of the other ideas listed that involved the internet. Also, instead of Wikipedia, Google has funds to work from instead of donations so I think this may be more official and a better source for information if implemented. Also, Big Brother is watching.

But the education was a close second.

I really liked the public transport system idea too. It was so awesome cause when I was in China, they had a big rail system, and we could take the D-Train to any city and it would get there within a couple days, if not hours. Much cheaper than flying too! Imagine if they had electric trains here that we could take to get from, say, Ohio, to Florida. No more driving cross-country!

"We're going to make travel in this country leaner and a whole lot cleaner," said Vice President Joe Biden, speaking before Obama.
The president spoke one day after the governors of eight Midwestern states sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood requesting stimulus funds for the construction of a regional network of faster passenger rail lines.
The city of Chicago, Illinois, would be the hub of the proposed Midwest Regional Rail System, which would stretch to Madison, Wisconsin, in the Northwest; St. Louis, Missouri, in the South; and Detroit, Michigan, in the East.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama pledged to support a national network of faster passenger trains. The administration has already dedicated $1.3 billion in federal funding for Amtrak.
The money for the rail service, which carried almost 29 million passengers last year, will go primarily to infrastructure repair and improvement.
from here (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/16/obama.rail/).
Transportation is already being worked on. 10 million pales in comparison to 1.3 billion so it would be a lost cause unless the 10 million is for a single city.

They didn't say they were going to build train tracks, the money is for R&D in more efficient mass transit.

I wish they had one to update our electric grid. Damn thing's ancient and very inefficient.
'Course that's a bit selfish considering some of those options are for world wide use.

My cause covers R&D. Also, like I said, 10 million wouldn't make a big impact unless it's on a single city.

Knowing that all of these are possible with or without the 10 million, I voted for the one I felt was most necessary (transparency). I'm pro-education, but I didn't vote for it. Mostly because I wonder who will be teaching, and what will be taught. Residential schools "helped" too.
