Imagine what would have happened if he didn't take action right away

I can just imagine this. A teenage girl with a pistol, and this guy slams right into her, and shouts "PWNT #####!" That would so make my day.

Please stop making one liner threads with a link to a news article. I know I do it too, sometimes, but only with major shit. You just link random "news" like "frog in Pepsi".
Why was a senior on the same bus as elementary kids, anyways?

It's nice he did it, but let's get real he's not Chuck Norris. It was a girl, and a much younger one at that (I'm not sexist, because of testosterone men are stronger then women, it's a fact not a remark). Still good that he helped avert a disaster and people should appreciate that.

I think he paid her money to do this so he could get recognized as a football star and hero.
Just an evil plot to get more recognized on the football field.

I know several women who are as strong, or stronger, than men. Testosterone doesn't magically make men strong, it just makes it easier for them to become strong.
On-Subject: This reminds me of several of the high school shootings. If just one person could disarm the attacker before it even started, dozens of lives could've been saved.

Your conspiracy theory is valid and has numerous articles of evidence supporting it.

I don't think you realise how much of an idiot you'd have to be to try to take on someone with a gun. I'm happy that it worked out in this situation, but really. Things could've been a lot worse.

Well, you have to be smart about it, you can't just go charging in hopeing they will flinch or something, this guy waited until the time was right.

If you're probably going to get killed anyway, you might as well die trying to save others.

A gun is a gun. It doesn't matter your physical size. You don't have to be strong or courageous to use a gun. However, you do have to be courageous to take that gun head on while completely unarmed.

Actually, most high-school shootings are well-planned. The only real way to counter them is a good counter-plan that can be enacted immediately. The perps in a school shooting plan on dying ultimately anyway, and are usually in groups of 2 or 3. The only way to really take them out without armed intervention are some well-placed traps (usually baiting them somewhere, and then preventing their escape).
With that said, most people do not think logically in such extreme situations. Thus, usually a "hero" who is thinking logically will step up. That's why they are hailed as a hero, being able to maintain mental acuity in stressful situations.
wow it doesnt actually suck this time

And if he had gotten shot it'd be non-stop coverage about how he was about to become a huge football star.
Still, good for him. And those kids.

It's not uncommon for school districts to give busses double duty.

When I saw this common phrase,I thought this wouldn't be a shocking thread about some random article.
"When he tackled her to get the gun, he could've got shot you know -- she could've shot him. ... His career could've been ruined for the rest of his life."

It is pretty brave to tackle an unsteady girl with a gun.

I know several women who are as strong, or stronger, than men. Testosterone doesn't magically make men strong, it just makes it easier for them to become strong.
I also know several women who are stronger then some weaker men. I'm just saying that if a woman works 3 times as hard as a man and works out 3 times a week, she can't be stronger then a man who works out once a week and exercises regularly. To be honest it does "magically" make men strong. Men can become stronger (or at-least the ones who don't have a testosterone deficiency or lower amounts of it) just by doing simple activities. I mean a man isn't going to get strong if they just sit on their a#$ all day, but if they're active they will. So yes, that would be pretty much "magically" getting strong. The way you make it sound is that I think a wizard pops out of the bushes and says because you have testosterone, I'm giving you super strength.
Edit: As for what Alice says, she's correct it's not that easy. The only reason it was easily possible in this situation is because the girl had no choice but to have people behind her, making her very easy to disarm. In a classroom if he stood at the front they'd have to charge into him, not as easily possible.

Very simple and effective solution: Kick him in the groin. C'mon, immediate equal justice right there.

All I can think of at this point is the fighting style. The overall weakness of women can easily be compensated by striking the weak point of their male opponent, who may not have prior experience or knowledge in the art of combat. Not to mention, they are also much more flexible, furthering the advantage of women over men.

Well, you know what they say about bravery. You know, with there being a thin line between it and stupidity.
But no, this is cool. Good for him, I guess.

Christ, do you always do this? It's almost as annoying as the people currently trying to derail the thread by talking about whether men or women are stronger. Stop being such an idiot. Jeez.

Aside from kicking them in the groin, which a man with reflexes could stop, I don't see any advantage. Flexibility helps, but a lot of men are flexible as well. Think of it this way, who would, Bruce Lee or the best female martial arts fighter of all time?

I'm sure almost anyone could've stopped the girl. It just would take a bit of composure and courage to do it. It's good for him and all the people on the bus though. But, to be perfectly honest, I think the real issue we should all be asking is, why in the utter hell was a 14-year old wielding a gun on a bus? It's kinda crazy that a story like this comes up and all anyone cares about is that someone stopped her, not that the event should never have happened in the first place.
Ah yes, now I remember why I avoid the news.

Stupid stories? A 14-year-old carries a gun onto a bus is a silly and trivial matter to you? How young does the killer have to be before the matter is of interest to you?

Bruce Lee is dead. I'd say the best female martial artist of all time is probably still alive, so I'd say she has a good chance.

Yeah. I'd definitely take money from some guy to pretend I was gonna shoot a load of people and then get tackled by him. My life will be fantastic after that.

Also, he would have been my hero if he yelled, "PWNT!" when he tackled her.
