Save the file that you want to be your animation as apng, then upload it.
And please, no double posting. I noticed the two posts were one minute apart from each other. Try to be more patient in the future. ;)

BTW. who wants a animated avatar anyway? It just takes up more bandwidth, and besides, usually a good still avatar can say more about a person than a moving-not-so-good one.

Actually, most of the moving ones I've seen are Googled.
