So here's my band from the music school that you've heard about every now and then. Figured I'd put a few videos out here.
Original song: Baked Potato - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9D_Lp4gsEM
Promotional Video (video itself is pretty much just a video montage, but the song IS us): Superstition - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcH1WtyQ8Dg
Fell In Love With a Boy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbBfUBq226Y
Human Funktion YouTube search results are here. (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=human+funktion&search_type=&aq=f)
Just to get you guys in the know of what I'm doing outside of XGen.
**This band is currently on an indefinite hiatus for educational purposes.**

Yeah, it's Lagond Music School (http://www.lagondmusic.org/) in Elmsford (New York).
The thing is, I'm not sure if the band is gonna continue next year. Kevin (drummer) and Cole (guitarist) agree that the band went in a different direction than they wanted (which is straight-up funk). So the three of us are thinking of starting our own band outside of the school. I'll keep you guys updated on how this goes too.

Dude, I'd give anything to go to that school. That looks seriously amazing.
Yeah, that sounded more like funk/rock fusion kind of stuff, but hey, sounds pretty damn good to me. Definitely keep us updated, you've got some talent in that group. I'm currently in a jazz band outside of school, but we don't have near enough time to practice unfortunately.

It really is a great school. Not cheap, but a good school. Human Funktion was actually an experiment band. The bands that the school runs are based on levels: standard and Ultimate Performance. HF was placed in between the two, with Standing Room Only (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVsQqJPSbQ4) being the full Ultimate Performance band, and bands like Da'Fushion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppYTFztQIo0) or Graffiti Calling (http://www.youtube.com/user/GraffitiCalling) being some of the school's standard bands. They're almost like band-workshops, with an instructor and a set of goals that have to be met. Basically, it's a band that's created for educational purposes.
And really, being able to get any practice time is good enough. Do you have any videos/recordings?

Wow, that's seriously awesome. Like I'm jealous forever. Standing Room Only sounds fantastic from that clip, and our jazz band plays The Chicken (the one Da'Fushion played in that clip) pretty often. Except I'm afraid to say our bassist is a bit better then theirs.
Yeah, although it doesn't leave us much time to write anything. So we end up just playing stuff that's already written and/or standards, which can get a little boring sometimes. Well, there's our school jazz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu4pyBMdhDk) band (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCp-aeYZrP4) (those are two of the easiest songs we ever played, we just wanted something that we could stretch into endless solos), but the project of which I speak is outside of school, even though it contains most of the core members of teh school band. The extracurricular one doesn't have any recordings yet, sadly.

Eh...well you can still have fun with standards and cover songs. We took Footprints and turned it into a funk song in 4/4 (original song is jazz in 6/8), and I mess around with standards all the time (see my Bird Heads video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xsfn1LZzN0)). Yes, that's my XGen shirt. And your (in-school) jazz band videos aren't that bad.
As for the extracurricular band, the next time you get to rehearse just set up a camera with a tripod and play a song.

Hah, yeah, but not so much when a few people are still tied to sheet music. Whatever. The bassist, piano player, and I are all big fans of improv type stuff instead of written sheet music. Yeah, the only problem with having everyone in the band solo is that not everyone in that band is amazing at their instrument. We just got a new director, so we'll see how it progresses.
Yeah, see, that's the problem -- we don't really have regular rehearsal. We got together and jammed over the summer, but when school starts everyone's schedules go haywire so we'll see. We might just meet before school jazz band practice, that's kind of how this started.
