Sound of Madness is good. I like Second Chance alot, too.
Wish I could have seen them at Big Day Out . . . Staind was playing there too, I think.

I absolutely hate shinedown. Their music is horrible. The majority of songs most teenagers listen to are total garbage.

People like you piss me off. Instead of stereotyping, why don't you actually throw yourself out there and tell us what music YOU like? Maybe some teenagers like the music you do. This is why I don't come to the Music forum so often, people like you have no respect for others when it comes to music.

Not a fan, although I've heard way worse. I rate Shinedown a 2½ altogether.

Music is directly associated with elitism. People refuse to admit that they enjoy anything mainstream because they want to feel "above that". I listen to a lot of indie/underground music, but I'm not going to pretend that I can't see the talent in someone's music. Shinedown is a pretty good southern rock band, although I honestly don't like Second Chance much. I liked their cover of Simple Man, and their singer has a unique voice.

All of you should be more open to different kinds of music. Also, my favorite song from them is 45.

I'll be the first to say that Shinedown produces genuine, modern "Rock and roll", edgy type albums ( although not NEARLY as often as I like). Sound of Madness (the album) was raw, and powerful. The band delivers some fast paced riffs without getting too obnoxious or breakneck, but also produce an awesome presence with other mid-speed rocking tracks. Brent Smith sings with an aggression and power on the heavier pieces, but with some serious soul and passion on the more melodic ones. I enjoy how they progressively differentiate their choruses, making each one mroe potent than the last by throwing sweet chords and effects. As much as I hate to say it, Brent Smith carries that band.
Bottom line; Call the plumber. BS has got some serious pipes.

I listened to that song. It's not face paced. It's bordering on slow.

Ahh, I was unclear.
I was refering to the album as a whole, titled "The Sound of Madness". The title track certainly isn't one of their faster songs, and isn't my favorite of thealbum, but still delivers a powerful, edgy sound. The title track may be slow, but you can't combine a powerful sound with speed. Plenty of bands make hulking, badass music that don't go at Slayer pace. I wouldn't call sound of madness (the song) "hulking", but it's powerful in it's own right, if you ask me.
The whole album isn't a start-to-finish blistering note barrage. They go from a driving hardcore track (Cry for Help) to soaring vocal-driven tune (The Crow and the Butterfly). There's alot of this variety in all of Shinedown's music. That flexibility's what makes me like them.
