Has anyone here been really affected by the recession? My family hasn't, although my parents are more careful with their money now than ever before.

The recession has affected me very little, but just like yours my family is a bit more careful with their money now.

My family according to my mom is doing better than we were before somehow. We still watch the money but other than the couple of investments being near worthless now (never were worth much anyways) we are more stable than we've ever been.

My Aunt who worked at her hospital for 25 years got laid off a few months ago. All of my friends are dealing with money issues. My father says if he can stop letting people freeload off him, we should be fine.

I had a job interview with a CPA firm yesterday, I think it went really well.

my dad has had two 5% pay cuts (that doesn't mean 10%, the second 5% was less than the first because he had already lost 5%, so it's 5% off of 95%, not 100%)

My aunt and uncle got laid off from their factory job's in Chicago. They each were working there for more than 15 years. Lucky for them they have 4 kids that are all old enough to help with bills and are about to move out anyways.

My dad's girlfriend had to close her restaurant, I would assume because of the recesssion.
My mom has had no change.
My mom's boyfriend has had no change.
My dad has somehow got a promotion, so he's doing better, though he is afraid of losing his job.

Generally nothing, as I don't see my dad's girlfriend that often.

I've been having money issues, but mostly related to inflation and the government cutting back on spending for students.

No my family and I are just fine. We are a bit more careful with how we spend our money, but so far nobody in my immediate or extended family has lost a job or is in any real money issues due to the recession.

My family hasn't been effected by recession. We may have cut back on spending a bit but I haven't noticed any big changes. We might go out to dinner less but that isn't a big deal. Moneys always been tight for me because I got into a few accidents when I first got my license. But I am not broke. Overall, I know a lot of people have been affected by the recession it just hasn't been anybody I know personally.

I now eat pasta or hot dogs three times a week. Yeah, I've been affected.

Years of living in the hut and years of hardcore cheapskating, it is safe to say that my Washington will be squinting to the sun when I take out my wallet =P

All in seriousness, both of my parent have a very stable job with low risk of being laid off; none of my family members here in Utah suffered much, if at all. Members over in Kansas on the other hand didn't fare as well.

I think investors got hurt the worst (large and small). The owner of my McDonald's own 11 other stores but he had a lot of money in the stock market and now he is cracking down on stuff like food cost and promotions and the like. Even though he has a lot of money still, he wants to recoup what he lost (and who wouldn't). I don't think my parents invested much in stocks so they weren't as effectied

I'm in college, I'm getting affected by bargains in the shops everywhere. It's pretty much the best place to be during a recession.

The entire Woolworths chain in England had to close down after it couldn't find a buyer, so I can no longer shop at Woolworths.

That's about it.

It seems like half of the adults I know lost tons of money in the stock market through personal investments and their retirement funds.

Obama says you should give me money.

Other than a buddy of mine who lost around 300 grand, no, not yet, except that my place of work is holding off on hiring some more help for a few months. Not a big deal, though, and that was likely to happen anyways.

I had about 13k NIS invested, I think it's about 11k now.
I thought about putting it in Teva, if I had I'd have about 20k or so now.

A gig the band I'm in was supposed to play at (for monies) was cancelled. That's about the extent of how I've been affected negatively. I mostly live off of interest-free student loans and a job at my university. That and retail chains and supermarkets are starting to drop prices slightly and offer more deals, so I'm in the same boat Den is in.

Almost no effect on me and my family currently, other than price changes. Both my parents still have their jobs and have not received pay cuts. We really haven't lost anything so far, and I don't really expect to in the future.

We haven't even cut down spending.

My mother's been hit pretty hard. She owns a cleaning company and she's been losing a good amount of clients. Making ends meet is getting to be near impossible according to her.

My dad owns his own appliance business and they have been struggling to make it.

I haven't been affected myself, but it would suck if for some reason I left my job and I was unable to find another one.

Tons of personal problems. Living in a recession-affected Miami sucks.
