That must've been really nerve-wrecking for the New Yorkers. Maybe Dom can give us an insight.

Thoughts?

"The president was furious about it," one of the officials said."

Well, I found something me and Mr. Barak can agree on.

Honestly, I think it's retarded that they would do a "photoshoot" right by the WTC.

And without alerting the public.

The big government alerted the city government that this was scheduled and to tell everyone about it. The city didn't manage to do so, if it really bothered to do so at all. Blame the city administration.

I don't see any problems. Where the WTC was, there is now this big gap in the buildings. Perfect spot for taking images of flying aircraft in New York, I assume.

Still, the public wasn't alerted.

Would anyone really try the same thing twice? I say that it was a bit of a overreaction.

Blame the city administration. Capt. Anna Carpenter of Andrews Air Force Base said local law enforcement agencies and the Federal Aviation Administration had been given notice of the exercise.

New York Police Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne said the department had been alerted to the flight by the federal agency "with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it."

Sen. Chuck Schumer echoed the mayor's sentiments in a separate news conference Monday afternoon, saying the Federal Aviation Administration should have notified the public to avoid panic. The Federal level decided specifically to not tell everyone. The city isn't to blame for the idiotic whims of upper level wigheads.

I disagree. I believe the men and women who still live their lives in vivid memory of 9/11 have the right to fear such an event.

Then I'm getting contradicting news, but I guess that's what I get for watching MSNBC.

If this is how it works, where New Yorkers are suddenly afraid of planes, then obviously the terrorists have won.

Won? They've been winning since, well, the terrorist groups formed.

Well, it was such a success last time why wouldn't they try it again?

It sounds like the city were more at fault than the government. It's a pretty irresponsible thing to do on your own people.

Planes generally don't fly that low to the ground, that was the main problem.

Not really. You can't knock down the same building twice, it would have to be rebuilt for that to happen.

>_>

If this is how it works, where New Yorkers are suddenly afraid of snakes on planes, then obviously Samuel L. Jackson has won.

I totally agree.

One when the president is aboard, was taking part in a classified, government-sanctioned photo shoot, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

How does one take a classified photoshoot above one of the most populated cities in the effing world? And since when is it so hard to photoshop an airplane into an image? And why does a photoshoot have to be classified anyway? How is stating "The President will not be on board" such a security risk? I SMELL CONSPIRACY! Bush and Cheney have started a secret government that is now planning to enslave the US population!

Conspiracy theories, anyone?

I think it was another attempt by terrorists to hijack a plane, but a passenger or something stopped the plane before it crashed. To keep the airport security from being murdered by the media(How could this have happened!), they just made up this story. Anyone else with me?

"The president was furious about it,"

So... he didn't know his plane was being used in a photoshoot?

Also, HE WAS NOT AMUSED!

Alright, let's put it this way:

9/11 is not a memory anyone who was there is willing to live through again. Everyone there was scared for their lives. To see a 747 flying as low as it did, it caused your heart to skip a beat. It was a vivid memory on how it started last time, by seeing a plane and thinking it was flying far too low.

Is it really horrible and should cause an uprising? Probably not. But warning would have been nice.

Okay, I gave it a thought and I really understand why Obama is furious. I mean, come on - who the #### would take a photoshoot on a 747? It's a big passenger plane. This is obviously not as innocent as it seems. It drives ME furious.

No no no, they didn't take photos from the windows of a 747, a plane was following behind the 747 with special cameras and taking pictures of the aircraft with NYC as a backdrop.

But even then that is incredibly stupid, because the second someone sees a poster with a 747 flying over New York City, immediate they are going to think of September 11th.

Agreed. These things have long-lasting impacts on society which aren't going to be shrugged off in a few years. Almost 40 years since the actual incident, it would still be a terrible idea for the military to arrange a ceremonial march and 21-gun salute across the campus of Kent State University. It's just not tasteful or appropriate.

It's not enough to warrant any serious action from the public, but it was definitely a poorly thought-out action on part of whoever arranged it. But then, is anyone really surprised that the U.S. government did something stupid?

I'm not surprised that they did something stupid. But take to account that being the only superpower in the world generates so many issues, that you'll be having quite a difficult time managing them all.

^lets not take this thread into a direction of countries and their issues please.

Yea I heard about this, very stupid. I can see why the people of NY would freak out. The last time they saw a plane flying that low was on 9/11 that would give anyone a reason to freak out, however to make it that big of an issue is just a bit too far. Everyone was furious about it, let it go. It wasn't an attack it was a photo shoot.
