Most of the forum members are of school age, and there have been several requests for this homework help area.
I look forward to this forum becoming a useful exchange for scholastic information - a place of answered questions.

The answer is negative two.
(-2)*(-2) does not equal to -4

I found it almost clear that he was referring to Skye's first post as it entailed that the "Homework Help!" forum was now open.

2i
x^0.5 is just like the square root.
Sqrt(-4) = Sqrt(-1)*Sqrt(4).
And the square root of -1 is i. An imaginary number. Honestly though? It's called a freaking calculator. It does these things in under a tenth of a second.

The answer is negative two.(-2)*(-2) does not equal to -4
The question reads -4^0.5=x, does it not? Now to solve.
Considering the fact that the negative four has no brakets, you are really only 1/4 squaring the 4, rather than the -4. Were it in brakets, the answer would be 2, as the two negatives would cancel each other out. Since it is not, the negative is not included in the first step:
4^0.5
=2
Bring the negative back into the question.
-2=x
x=-2
Wow.

I think Reality del Dark is right about this one.
By definition,
Sqrt(-1) = i
So, when you have -4^0.5, you have:
Sqrt(4) which equals Sqrt(4) * Sqrt(-1)
Sqrt(4) = 2
Sqrt(-1) = i
Which brings your final answer to 2i.

He is right. Like he said just use a caculater...any of you good writers cause I need to write a poem. Regarding these chracters-Eliza ( a runaway slave) Johanna ( A Canadian girl who's home is a safe houe) a mother(the owner of the slave house who is very come. Then it has to include that fact that it's in Canada and that it is in the late 1700's or early 1800's.
