View Full Version : Forum Argument Tactics

So you know, whenever you argue with someone on forum, there are always like typical argument lines like "Heh, you get your information from wikipedia, nub" or "I can't believe you thought of that reply, you think it's good but it's actually the worst reply of 2008". I remember when veteran users used to say those, the people that use proper grammar, make sense. But I spent some time on PSU boards, and I see idiots use those to counter valid arguments, did you ever stumble upon these situations? Like right now, I see those lines as pointless because those trail off the topic.

Does your post even have a point? What was the question? Seriously, if you can't even write a coherent paragraph, then don't.
...
See what I did there? Yeah. I did >_>
I've never actually read "that was the worst reply of so-and-so-year." Do people actually do that?

My personal favorite argument tactic/retort is: "ogm yuo teh sukk."
It helps me blow some steam. Dragon almost cried last time I said it to him. I wouldn't dare say anything more vulgar than "ogm yuo teh sukk" though only because Destructive might ban me for borderline trolling.

Haha, Speccy. <3.
I don't really see that situation a lot here. Even when someone says it they are joking.

Yeah, over here we have rules and we don't tolerate bad grammar at all, but at other forums it's just hilarious to see how they counter your arguments.

Fab, that post is just... hilarious to read.
I understand where you are getting at, but not even on here have we had anyone even joke to that extent.

It's actually fun trolling over there, I would recommend Spectral and Joest to register, it's tonnes of fun.
I hope that you weren't laughing at my posts right? :P

I read the GameFAQs LittleBigPlanet board sometimes, and it's often quite painful. I just ignore any arguments they have over there, since they never make any decent points and just ##### at each other for several pages.

Go Fabian! You owned those other users. I think it is hilarious when people try to refute superior logic with stupid comments like the ones mentioned above. If you disagree just say you disagree and give reasons why. Don't just say "u yeh suxorz" it makes you look like a two year old pouting. Grow up and learn to accept the fact that you are not always right

That reminds me of one tactic I do see around here.

I know it may be a little premature but this is definitely the worst thread of 2009.
My general argument tactic is to bring everything down to a personal level. For example:
Poster 1: 'I disagree, I believe Global warming is not a big problem'
Me: 'Well you would think that, ORPHAN!'

I'm not really the argumentative type, but when it comes to dealing with obnoxious fools who have nothing better to do than waste their life sitting on chairs in front of Hi-Def screen scratching their asses and using horrible "argument tactics" to get an invalid and poorly thought out point across, I can turn into a troll, even without the aid of a simple ass-kicking like that one over there.

I pick out everything that a person has said that I know is untrue. I usually don't get into arguments on the internet though, only if the person says something stupid enough to annoy me and I can tell they aren't trolling.
I ####ing hate when people use pictures off of 4chan when they are trolling. They can't think of something for themselves to say, so they use some crappy image board to save them.

You got that right. That was an awful joke. >_>

Arguing on a forum? Who would have thought? The sheer disrespect!!!!
I rarely argue in a thread, well, ever since 1 year into my membership here. It's just stupid and makes everyone else who participated look stupid as well, no matter how good your logic is or how flawed mine was. Not to mention, you then take what the "right" person says and store it in your arsenal for future use.
I'd rather argue in person, face to face, reason being I can respond appropriately to "GTFO my internetz".
