View Full Version : The Day The Zunes Died

At 12:01 AM on December 31st, all of the Zune 30GB players froze and would not work.

Apparently there was a driver in the 30GB version that couldn't properly handle the last day of a leap year, and so they were out of commission for 24 hours.

I was affected. =[ Anyone else experience this?

Also, for any iPod users, feel free to get your "I told you so"s out now, but know that I still feel superior.

... December 1st is the last day of a leap year?

>_>

I'd say this falls under "you have to be neurotic to catch a bug like that." As long as it fixes itself in the new year, there's no real problem. Of course, it's your fault for buying an MP3 player with more space than you could fill without putting stuff on there you're NEVER going to listen to, but that's a different story :)

I love how their solution is "It should work itself out in a day".

It was really frustrating for me seeing as I was traveling for New Years and had charged up my Zune all ready to go for this long car ride, when I turned it on and it crapped its pants.

Yeah, I was affected too. So were some Toshiba Gigabeat owners, but there are more Zune users - easiest thing to do was blame Microsoft.

And seriously, how are programmers (who are probably on holiday leave anyway) meant to find a bug in third-party software and fix it in <24 hours? I don't even thibnk they're legally allowed to do that.

In fairness, it's difficult to install a patch on a device that won't even boot.

Another thing, I can understand the Apple hate (they're kinda evil and obnoxious these days), but why the Microsoft love? They're not exactly a fun-loving, kind company either.

Not so much Microsoft love as it is Anti-Apple. Besides, in comparing the two products, I preferred the Zune's features.

Also, the fact is that this is the first time I've actually had a problem with my Zune, excluding one problem connecting via USB, but that was a third party cable's fault.

That sucks for people who have zunes. Ipods are better!

Get out.

My roommate's Zune died as well. I heard him screaming, "WTF."

Ipods are only considered better because they've become the mainstream music player.

The Zune is a better machine, in my opinion but I own an Ipod. Still happy with it.

My Dad's Zune died though. ;)

It's not so much that he got pissed, it's that he said "WTF".
ROFLMAO.

<3 my creative mp3 player which I never even turn on because, tbh, I just put my music on my PSP. I'm not someone who likes to have 64,000 songs at a time, as I'm never really into more than one album at a time. This is why I have two PSX games, a bunch of videos AND all the music I want on my 2gb memory stick.

I'm in no position to say "I told you so", as my iPod has indeed BSOD'd once.
