Okay, so heres the deal.
Im suppossed to be getting an expensive surround sound system which I don't want AT ALL. My mom doesn't care what I get but my dad really wants me too. It was supposed to be a surprise but my mom didn't think I want it so she she told me what it was.
Now, I'd really prefer to get a mac by chipping in some of my own money, but the thing is my dad HATES macs and I dont think he'll be happy if I return it to get one. My dad's more of a spread sheet and word document guy while I tend to be more creative.
How can I convince him that a mac will be WAY more useful for me than a surround sound system?
Any ideas?

How does a computer make you more creative? You can find the same software under different names on PCs.

Haven't you seen the commercials? All PCs are made for stodgy squares. If you want to be individualistic, you *have* to have a Mac. It's the *hip* computer.

Thats exactly right.

When you use a Mac you instantly get mroe respect from the online creative community.

Just get a PC and download photoshop.
There, it's like a mac, except functional, and cheaper.

Tell your dad that it's your present and not his. You should get what you want to fufill your wants...yea.

Also shouldn't this be in the advice thread?

It shouldn't be any of your dad's business what you do with your presents or what computer you use as your personal one. Make it clear to him that you're an individual and not a coverstory so that he can get something he wants for himself.

And yeah, you don't need a mac to be creative. Invest in a good PC tablet and Adobe's Creative Suite (which actually works for the PC, from what I gather) if you want to be creative.

If you really want a good excuse to give your dad, tell him that being familiar with more than one operating system in today's day and age could be beneficial to you later on in life.

There is, but that and final cut is just about all there is.

Just do this. It's your choice not his.

Personally, I'd love a surround sound system. Still.

Why does your dad hate Macs? It's a computer with a different OS, for cryin' out loud. And do you /need/ a Mac? All I've noticed is that it works slightly faster with image editing and easily beats PCs in heavy audio editing. Sure, PCs need some maintenance, but it's not all that bad. And no one ever calls tech support anyway.

Convince him to return for a PC instead, and a computer doesn't make you creative. I'm a PC and i like pancakes. There are tons of things for PC's compared to a mac anyways, and PC's are extremely cheap if you know how to make a custom made one xD
