CUDOS has developed its research prototype chip one year ahead of its deadline and has managed to achieve data transfer rates of 640 gigabytes per second

This is a very, very fast switch and it's going to allow networks — the existing fibre in the ground — to move more data without increasing costs

This thing looks awesome.

Stinks how there isn't a image, though.

I've heard of this already. It's going to be so much money.

That just proves to you that whatever you know now is really two years of old information.

Awesome, but I don't look at that much porn.

This still wont meet my porn needs. Work harder, CUDOS.

But really, this is great. Nobody will need an internet connection faster than that for at least 5 years, and because they don't need to rewire everything in the ground, it won't increase the cost of internet too much.

So long as it doesn't make things any more expensive, it could do really well.

And I thought 100 Mbps was fast.

I thought the Japanese got 65 Mbps...

Why are they always ahead of us?

It's a smaller country so it's easier to wire internets.

We have terrible internet here too. When it came here we averaged slower than dial-up because we 'live near water'

*shock horror*

We better get decent limits with it then. I think people would go through 10GB in a couple of days.

640GB/sec internet bandwidth? :o

That's like 130 DVD's or 700 CD's a second. It poses the same question as to how much computing power you really ever need: there's never enough, but what will you do with all of it?

What sucks is that we will get so used to it, we'll still think some downloads take too long.
"Delivery says it'll take 5 to 6 seconds."
"More like 7."

Yeah, right enough. Anything less than immediate wouldn't be good enough.

I think this is more of a commercial application to large organisations like schools and things.

I doubt anyone needs over 600 gig for there own use.

That's what I saw in another web page that I forget the link to. It's going to be a lot of money. Us simple folk won't be able to afford it.

Yeah, us simple folk might have to stick to 300gB a second.
