heh...i slighty irked a few people about bumping old topics on the motherload forum...so how long is it that a thread becomes OLD'D?
Depends on how active the forum is. It could be anywhere from around a week or two months before it gets too old to bump. Just use some judgement to decide whether or not it's too old to bump.

so if it's about 5-3 hours old it's still good?
Yeah, it will probably not be too old to post in if it's less than a day old.

The length of time for a illegal bump is varied. Depending on the "importance" of the thread. If there's nothing to be added, for example, and all points have been addressed, you shouldn't bother posting in it. Even two days after; if it's not helpful, it's basically a bump. Usually it's much longer, as non-spam bumpbs (lalallalalal, Liek, he's right) are generally important. So long as you've not been away too long, any unread thread (blue box beside it) is open for posting. The others are too, just aren't as active, and you'll want to check the date on them.

A week is pretty much my maximum. Plus anything not on the first page shoulnd't be posted in. Except for spammerland.

well, it really depends on what the tread is about... like the counting to 1 million on spam land will be there for pretty long because it's good and sorta funny where as topics like a story or a joke will die out in a few hours because its a one time thing, hope that answers your question

I've been here for quite the while, and regardless of what the rules state, I strongly believe there is no such thing as an "old thread" [sic].
If something can be added to the given discussion, any post should be valid regardless of whatever "veterans" [sic] claim.
In conclusion, if you have anything productive to add to any thread (regardless of lifetime), go ahead and proceed in doing what you intended to do. However, if you plan to add material completely unrelated to any thread, common sense should tell you to stop before you are ahead. And, for god's sake, listen to common sense for once.
