So, basically, a man goes out for dinner, doesn't want to pay the bill so he fakes a heart attack.
Anyway, he gets caught and what should've been a $23 steak is now ending up costing him $10,000 and 9 months in jail.
Hmm...that's some pretty expensive steak.

I can only imagine what must be going through this man's head, all for the sake of $23.

I wonder how many people have tried it and got away with it.

It'd be different if it was maybe 2 steaks. But $23. It's pretty stupid.

... Why a heart attack? I mean, there are a dozen things I could imagine faking that involve me running like a madman.
I'm gonna go fake cancer next time I don't want to pay my bus ticket :-/

I'll fake orgasm. Surely it'd at least make them uncomfortable enough to give me free food.

Harry and Sally would be thrilled.
I can't see any serious court giving the guy a fine that large. There have got to be cases that are actually... worth their time.

Surely not. This is FoxNews, a reliable source of serious news.
I'd say it's because of the recurring nature of the crime and constantly wasting emergency service time. That, or maybe he's actually accrued $10,000 worth of restaurant bills.
His ending statement in court should be "I was playing charades".

He should definitely feign a heart attack to get out of court.

I wouldn't be surprised if the lunatic tried that. Who knows, maybe karma will catch up with him, and he does have a heart attack. Everyone will not take him seriously, and he will die. That would be awesome.

For fraud? Fraud can get you serious repercussions. Any form of lying in or out of court gets serious punishment, regardless of what the case is.
So the fine is actually quite standard, and may even be lenient.

Hmm why not walk into a light jog to your car from the restraunt? Or atleast fake something less serious and or ask for the checkbook, walk out and if they ask you about it tell them the money was most likely stolen and apologize pay them there money and leave? But a heart attack? Jesus that's just plain stupid.

I have no sympathy for a guy who fakes a heart attack for free food.

Something like that actually happened to Red Foxx, a comedian whose signature act was a fake heart attack. However, one day he did have a real heart attack and die. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redd_Foxx#Death

Reminds of of "The Boy who Cried Wolf".
He should have just induced vomiting in the bathroom and said he got food poisoning from it. I'm sure it'd taste at least half as good coming up as it did going down.

Haha. What's the point of that? You get to taste vomit and you don't even get the nutrition of the steak. They'd probably give you free food there in the future, but who wants to eat at a place that gave you food poisoning?

Trust them? Or, sue the relentlessly until they fail.

I'm sure it's been done before, but this is the only guy who doesn't run after he gets the guy worried.
