So basically there are these dating ads and stuff, (I usually ignore them), But I've always wondered how they knew what area you lived in. It will say "Find singles near Oklahoma!" And all that jazz, but I just thought that Xgen's oh so bright community would know why. =]

To answer their question:

Somehow your IP can be traced back to your ISP, and sometimes further. Using your IP, they can tell you the correct area.
