It's now official, XGen's upcoming Nintendo WiiWare title is none other then a re-imagining of our much-loved classic game of medieval guardianship; Defend Your Castle (http://www.xgenstudios.com/defend-your-castle/).

Check out the Defend Your Castle page (http://www.xgenstudios.com/defend-your-castle/) we've put together for more information and to see screenshots from the game.

And check out the Original Defend Your Castle (http://www.xgenstudios.com/castle/) if you're unfamiliar, still playing strong 5 years after release.

Saw it coming.

I hope it's better balanced and has some kick arse physics effects to kill stick people.

Would have been cool to see you come up with a new concept, however.

If you click "Defend you castle original", it opens a new xgen tab.

Edit:
Wow that was a fast fix, robyn!

A few things:

The wii version looks different. And since its different, its kind of worse then last time. Like, the paperish theme is ok, but it doesn't seem realistic anymore, and its too cartoony.

Is the original wii-enabled?

Is it in the wii shop or is it free?

Yikes, I remember Castle off of ABS. Glad to see it on the Wii now, even if I yet to own one. Hopefully it is free for those with a Wii.

Serious question

Will this be available world wide? I know that there are a lot of discrepancies with national boundaries when it comes to games being offered online (see XBox demos, etc).

Do you know if this game will be available in Europe/World wide, or is this a North American Release for now?

The visual makeover and co-op play is nice, but what else has been added entice me to pay for this?

That's pretty nice looking, and basically what we all knew would happen. Except it's not PTV.

*sigh* Maybe XGen can work with Nintendo on bringing PTV on one of their defunct consoles if it makes you feel better. Personally, I won't mind playing it off of an N64, if that was the case.
Heck, maybe XGen can.....anyone else able to picture PTV on the Gamecube and/or the Wii in the near future?

They are not going to make any more N64 cartriges, and barely have any Gamecube disks.

The game cube is dead. The N64 is ancient history. They aren't going to make any more games for them.
Even if they did...who would pay 50 bucks for PTV? I mean, really...even an enhanced version. It just doesn't have that kind of replay ability and depth to be a console game(unfortunately, neither do 50% of games coming out on consoles nowadays).

I'll be looking foward to playing this on my Wii. Five bucks is very cheap.

Was just giving a scenario. I'm well aware of both the death of the N64, and the abandonment of Gamecube. The Gamecube is almost worthless to own now, seeing as the Wii takes all the games for it.
I kinda said the N64 because I just remembered playing the original Mario Party from who knows when. Random memory....

I love how the attacking sticks have buttons for heads, and the health bar says "Helth."

Ehhh.....anyway, I doubt I'll even get a Wii at this rate....

Answers:
All this and more for only 500 Wii Points™

I don't have a wii, So I don't know how to get the points. I'd imagine that you get them from in-game accomplishments or buying them.

Ontopic: I know that the way it looks was intentional. But I personally wouldn't play it because of how it looks. does xgen get money for wii points being spent on the game?

Excellent choice of game.

For those who don't know about Wii Points:
-It's just a type of currency the Wii uses to buy online stuff. It's similar to Microsoft points.
-You can buy them either with a credit card from the Shop Channel or from an outside store through Wii Point cards.
-In the US, they're worth a penny per point. 500 Wii Points = $5.00
-No idea what they're worth in other countries/continenets.

Ok, back to DYC.
500 points is a nice price, nice guys. Also, will there be new enimy types in this one. I know they look different but the current game has 4 stick enimies and then the dragons. Now that I'll be paying for this, I'd kind of like a little more to... kill.

Also, since this is like a remake of DYC this kind of, sort of, makes it a sequel to PTV... maybe. So will we be seeing some reimagined PTV enimes come to attack the castle in revenge?

Hmm... seems interesting. I'd buy it if I had a Wii.

DarkReality
02-29-2008, 10:59 AM
I won't buy it simply because it's the third time the same concept is being used. Seeing how I get bored of PTV after a mere 10 levels and DYC plays itself, I can't see myself playing this long enough to make it worth 5 euros/dollars, even if that's hardly worth mentioning.

I hope they'll add a playable demo (if possible) because seeing how I (as well as many other people) don't buy games that they can't rent, test, or pirate beforehand (or return to the store)... yeah.

Actually they might. The Everyone's Nintendo Channel from Japan is said to come to the states soon and they could very well put a demo for it on there.
Don't know about Europe though.

Schweet. Congratulations.

Now all I have to do is get a Wii...

Nintendo doesn't put any pressure on developers to create demos. They say it's a waste of time and money, and for the most part, it is. I wouldn't expect one.

I have 400 wii points...that seems to be the cursed number for me. I always end up with that amount after I buy a few games, and there's nothing to spend it on...

The paper theme is very creative.

PTV and DYC, what made you pick DYC?

Hey, did anyone else notice that there was four flags on the castle? In the original, there was only 3 (archer, mage, craftsman). What could this extra class be?
For some reason, I don't think it's demolition men.

Well the little kiddy art theme fits the Wii... Good luck with it but I wont be buying a Wii and then paying to play DYC.

My first thought would have been the little suicide bombers you can send out, but I doubt that's right. That was in the original anyhow, so you might have to play it to find out...

So this game will cost 500 Wii Points?

Awesome, because I still have 2000 left from Christmas. =D
