It's official (http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2008/02/20/exclusive-nintendo-wiiware-launches-may-12th-with-no-demos-planned.aspx); the news from Game Developer's Conference '08 (http://www.gdconf.com/) is that Nintendo launches their highly-touted WiiWare service on May 12th of this year. The gaming giant will now be competing directly with Microsoft's XBox Live Arcade in the downloadable console games business.

What does this mean for XGen? We've got high hopes for our own WiiWare contribution which will be launching alongside WiiWare in May, keep checking here for updates and information to satisfy your interest before the release.

If XGen can release it alongside the launch of the WiiWare service, then XGen can really capitalize on the launch. You know the fanboys will be buying the games just to rub it in Microsoft's face. If XGen's title is on the list, guess who'll be seeing some sales?

To add to the negativity, WiiWare is hardly competition. Just stack the features up side-by-side with the XBox360, PS3, or a normal computer-gaming rig and it's plain to see who comes in last place.

However, it does provide Flash support, something unique to the Wii, which lets XGen jump into console gaming ... partially. It's really like XGen is just leveraging their games onto the platform through what is now a universal software platform in the Flash Player.

It's unfortunate that I have no plans to own a Wii... :(

The only reason I'd want a Wii is because of Brawl.

He never said WiiWare had flash support.

Bolded.

And Skye this means you are developing something outside of flash now?
Shweet.

He never said WIIWARE had flash support. He's talking about the Wii in general. Or am I missing out on something here?

I used an indefinite pronoun - JESUS CHRIST, SOMEBODY GET HELP. /sarcasm

I thought people would understand "it" would mean the Wii in general, which does support Flash, since XGen has only developed Flash games in the past. If the company is going to branch into more mainstream platform development, like using the Wii for a console instead of a Flash Player, then this is truly news.

Well they are then. They officially registered as a WiiWare dev. It's not exactly a full $50 game disc, but it a pretty damn good step above the Wii's Internet Channel. They have the full set of Wii tools to use from the dev kits.

The Ballistick issue wasn't answered. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Are these going to be free games? Will they cost money? Will they be WORTH their money?

Or rather this. Only one title was announced, if I'm not mistaken.

Something that would really asplode people's minds is if the WiiWare XGen title was Stick RPG2, but the chances are incredibly slim.

Especially because it doesn't really offer much use for the Wiimote, apart from minigame controls. And I'm expecting something great and innovative, oui?

PTV would work quite well on the Wii I'd assume.

The gesture casting would actually make sense with a Wiimote, yeah.

DarkReality

well I hope it's going to be more than just using the Wiimote as a pointing device. If I wanted to do that, I'd open up the browser and play the flash version. I should hope that they utilize the motion sensing to a great extent and not just port a flash game they can then most likely sell over the Nintendo network.

He never said WIIWARE had flash support. He's talking about the Wii in general. Or am I missing out on something here?

Then his point is invalid since XGen is releasing a WiiWare title and he claimed it was through Flash that they got into Wii game development. If he doesn't claim WiiWare has Flash support, then he shouldn't claim XGen is using the Flash player for their announced WiiWare title, eh? ;)

The Ballistick issue wasn't answered. Any additional info would be appreciated.

This is not a news thread about Ballistick.

He apparently thought that WiiWare games were developed in Actionscript/Flash. God forbid he made a mistake. No need to get all jumpy about it.

He never claimed that. He was making a general statement about the Wii and comparing it with the other consoles. He then said that the flash player in the Wii makes it stand out.

Seems he did (read his posts) ;)

Well good thing we've corrected the misunderstanding then. Theres no jumpiness here, just some help to get things sorted out (no need to get jumpy yourself :D).

By the way, to be completely honest I don't know if you were agreeing or disagreeing with me, due to the ambiguous tense of the word 'read.'
