The Mars Volta, if you don't already know, is a proggresive band that is generally awesomer than any of us could ever want.

They're so ridiculously pretentious about their music.
They just act like they're some band sent from the heavens to redeem the human race or something.
I listened to most of a stream of the album, and although I'm not personally fond of the band, it does sound pretty damn nice.

The album is too long for it's own good. They obviously tried to make the music more concise and to-the-point with TBiG, but they pretty much defeated the purpose by making the album 75 minutes long.
