To any serious Flash Game Developers, how important is AS3 in game-making nowadays? Im still stuck on AS1-2, haven't taken the time to learn anything in AS3

Reason I ask is im wondering wether I should buy this like 200$ Total Training videos for FL:CS3, it deals mostly in AS3

appreacite it if you answer!

Off topic, but I'm only getting CS3 because of the joint system.
It makes people ALOT easier to animate.

Off Topic, The system looks awesome but it may well be very buggy and I'm sure if you want total control regular individual tweens and fbf will look better.

yeah..its pretty much important.. its all about the speed boost and more advanced bitMap effects..so basically, you can make things look a lot nicer and play faster!
his is just what I conider to be the most important changes for gaming..but you also get a more standard programing style..wicth is standard for a reason..runTime debug, free compiler, improved drawing API(pretty nice for games..), pretty much everything is improved actually..
then it comes to AIR..witch is a nice desktop based app..still in beta, but it plays perfectly already..you can connect to the internet, save games on outside files, use DB, and have some other interactions with the OS(works much better on windows for now..but its beta)..you do have to install the app, so its not browser based anymore, tho that doesnt limit you on using netConnection.. and without AS3 you dont get most of it..

and yet I think I missed some points here..the fact that most games that come out are AS2 based is only because most games made in flash out there are made by designers, not programmers..

Offtopic: CS3 is buggier for sure than flash 8 I have found so far. Sometimes while exporting my swf and I click on an msn convo the flash player inside flash once done exporting the swf will be behind all my panels. It's rather annoying. Flash CS3 crashes more often I find too.

Umm... Flash CS3 doesn't have the Joint system. That's Flash Next (or Flash CS4).

Also, AS3 is awesome if you have some programming background. It runs way faster. I would NOT recommend Flash CS3 for ActionScript programming though, I would use Flex 3 BETA and FlashDevelop3. Those rock.

Well I just finished installing CS3 and so far, its been a little disappointing, one big thing is the lack of a workspace border, anyone with CS3 know how to get that canvas back? thanks

Wtf? I'm pretty sure they had it in the demo.
