Anyone know how to write a song?
I'm starting to write a couple songs but I just need some tips from some of our musicians here.

Give us a genre. Are you writing a pop single or a rock opera?

Write something. If it sounds like a pubescent 15 year old with more gel in his hair than brains in his head could sing it, then you've done a terrible job.

>_>

Most important thing is that you match syllables to the melody so that it doesn't sound like someone attempted to write a rap and failed miserably.

Yeah, I try making up a tune first then adding in words to it, so it sounds like everything fits in.

And it's just songs on the guitar.

I write songs fairly often.

Usually I start with a theme in my head (ie Love, Anger, or Confusion) and associate words, feelings, and situations with it. After I write the song I then do the tune on my guitar, not vice versa.

Yeah, I pick a theme and than go from there.

Write about genuine things that relate to you. Don't write clichés, and don't write about things that mean nothing to you.
